Every trailer , notice or picture still lead up to the handout ofYogi Bearhad me unwaveringly convinced this picture show would be adolescent , unimaginative and unfunny - so imagine my surprise when it actually stop up demonstrate some charm .
Do n’t misunderstand me , managing director Eric Brevig has n’t created some novel chef-d’oeuvre of cinema - but he does know who ’s in his target consultation and how to pander to them intelligently . It was quite bracing to watch a children ’s photographic film that does n’t to resort to poop jokes , privates shot or incompatible behavior to outlawed laughs from those under the eld of ten . Far too many times films market to younger kids insert shot which make the parent in me cringe – gratefully there are no such scene inYogi Bear .
Just like one of the classic 1964 cartoons , Yogi Bearstarts off with the bouncy , hungry bear come up with an to a fault complex plan to swipe an unsuspecting family ’s duck soup field goal in Jellystone Park . His close buddy Boo Boo ( voice by Justin Timberlake ) is right there with him attend to as his voice of reason , always query the practicality and ridiculousness of his basketful - nobble contraptions .

With all ostensibly lost , Mayor Brown immediately closes the car park , transfer Ranger Smith , promotes his help Ranger Jones ( T.J. Miller ) to Head Ranger and gives the loggers the OK to begin clearing tree .
This obviously does n’t posture well with Yogi or Boo Boo , who notify Ranger Smith of Mayor Brown ’s dastardly plans . Together they shape with Rachel to save Jellystone by make it a government protected park with the help of Boo Boo ’s pet turtleneck .
First the bad news show - Ranger Jones and Mayor Brown ’s Chief of Staff ( Nathan Corddry ) are completely annoying and serve no real purpose in the movie . I like Anna Faris but she is at a departure when it comes to act with CG characters - most of the prison term she just stands around with this open - mouthed , slack - jawed expression on her face which I suppose is guess to represent surprise and happiness but it just comes across creepy and uncanny .

The story Jeffery Ventimilia and Joshua Sternin have put together is n’t very unassailable ( though I was n’t expecting much from the writers ofThe Tooth Fairy ) but it was decorous enough to admit the attending of both me and my four class old boy .
The CG character / live - action character interaction is by far the worst I have ever hear on screen . This failure fall squarely on the shoulders of Brevig who should have done a good job of instruct the actors on how to interact with something that is n’t there . Most of the time , Cavanagh and Faris just stare off into space either too high or too low and end up talking to Yogi ’s belly instead of his look and appear like they are hugging a big pile of zephyr instead of a blurry , loveable bear .
Now for the good news : all of the scene which feature Yogi and Boo Boo together are , if the theater full of little kid I watched it is an precise standard of measurement , very funny - and luckily Brevig dedicated a lot of film prison term to them . There is a romance of sort brewing between the bumbling Ranger Smith and Rachel which come off as fresh without becoming the focus of the story .
The biggest surprise performance comes from Andrew Daly as Mayor Brown : he chews up every vista he ’s in with soft humor . commonly bad guys in children ’s picture show are outrageously over - the - top to the point of annoyance . Most author believe that kids wo n’t be able to calculate out on their own who the bad guy cable is without a series of unfit paronomasia , bad haircuts or bumbling doings .
All and all , Yogi Bearwas better than I carry and possibly that ’s due in part to my entering the theatre of operations with very low expectation . Is it a perfect film ? Far from it - but if you have children under the years of ten then they should enjoy it just all right .
