Wrath of the Titans

If you were a fan of the first installment thenWrath of the Titansis going to be a welcome improvement; if you didn’t like the first film, this sequel is not going to reverse your negative opinion.

ira of the Titanspicks up about a X afterClash of the Titans , where we get Kraken - off daemon Perseus ( Sam Worthington ) having traded his steel for the mundane life of a fisher and father to his boy , Helius . ( Sadly his wife Io clear away - probable because the actress playing her did n’t return for this subsequence ) .

One nighttime , Perseus ' father Zeus ( Liam Neeson ) appears to tell him of an ominous prognostication : Mankind has moved away from the idol , induce the god to lose their powers . This loss has consequently de-escalate the wall of Tartarus , the underworld prison house where the Olympians banished the monstrous Titans - including Kronos , the father of Zeus , Hades and Poseidon . Zeus needs help to hold Tartarus together , but Perseus is reluctant to return to conflict - that is , until Hades ( Ralph Fiennes ) and Zeus ' other Word Ares ( Édgar Ramírez ) conquer the god of lightning and begin to transfer his life force into the dormant Kronos .

With the lot of the universe in the counterbalance , Perseus recruit allies in the form of his old friend Queen Andromeda ( Rosamund Pike ) and Poseidon ’s demigod son Agenor ( Toby Kebbell ) . The trio sets out on a grievous pursuit into the underworld to free Zeus , and turn back the Titans from let out detached and wreaking havoc upon the mankind .

Clash of the Titanswas a passably underwhelming affair ( read our review ) , with its wooden acting , formulaic , telecasting secret plan - style onward motion , poor 3-D transition and action sequences that were more lackluster than thrilling . anger of the Titansis indeed an improvement upon its harbinger - but not by much .

Battle Los Angelesdirector Jonathan Liebesman steps into the theater director ’s chair in place ofClashhelmer , Louis Leterrier . The two at long last prove to be on the same skill layer ( average ) , but are somewhat different in condition of their shortcoming .

Where Leterrier ’s signature was stiff and contrived action choreography buck at intermediate compass using wires harnesses and such , Liebesman prefer for the same kind of shot manner he used inBattle LA- namely a claustrophobic , over - the - articulatio humeri shaky cam view -   which will immediately turn off a certain contingent of moviegoer .   The action mechanism successiveness in the first celluloid feel like excessively - contrived dance routines , but inWraththe action ( peculiarly in the first half ) is a commixture of blurry up - closemouthed movement and wider tracking shots that put the human actor in the foreground , lam toward or away from some CGI creature in a green screen door background . Stylistically address it ’s not very sophisticated , or believable .

Wrath of the Titans starring Sam Worthington Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes (review)

gratefully Liebesman ’s guerrilla shot style relax as the film moves into some of the bigger set pieces in the 2d and third act , andWrath of the Titansultimately manages to end on a much stronger note than it begin , with some epical blockbuster sequence that make smart use of the film ’s much - improved 3D format . Sure , see Perseus riding Pegasus towards a giant molten lava Titan is almost a carbon - transcript of the first pic , but Liebesman makes it depend good . War pretense is definitely his solid suit .

The performing in the cinema is slenderly better this time - though the book is still pretty formulaic , with dialogue that is wooden at unspoilt , cringe - worthy at forged . Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes are gratefully given more to work on with , as one of the subplots has to do with Zeus and Hades confronting their sibling topic as the time of the deity nears its end . Édgar Ramírez also gets a more Shakespearean ( and I use that termveryloosely ) tale electric discharge , playing the immortal of war as a offend , rage - fueled man - child with deep - seat papa issue . Rosamund Pike and Toby Kebbell are good sidekicks , and character actor Bill Nighy ( Underworld , Pirates of the Caribbean ) shows up for a scenery - chewing cameo alongside a very special guest , which fans of the 1981 originalClashwill delight in seeing .

Sam Worthington , on the other hand , is still as wooden and uninteresting as ever . There must ’ve been a portion of CGI required to create the actor ’s facial expression in hisAvataralien body , because in every alive - action role since then ( see : The Debt , Man on a Ledge ) Worthington has pretty much proven that his cooking stove extends between vacuous grimace and feral growling . Wrath of the Titanstries to give Perseus some deep emotional motivations ( family , obligation ) , but the vista requiring emoting just look bland and even comical lot against Worthington ’s blank stare . Even Pegasus manages to display more personality - and he ’s a flying horse .

Sam Worthington and Liam Neeson as Perseus and Zeus in Wrath Titans

Zeus (Neeson), Hades (Fiennes) and Ares (Ramirez) in ‘Wrath of the Titans’

The Titans ( and all the mystical animate being that come with them ) are all well - plan and fitly ominous - except for the Minotaur in the   labyrinth   successiveness . Thanks to superfluous trembling - River Cam , we hardly get to see what ol' horn head teacher looks like . But Kronos , the Chimera , the duple - trunk demon soldiers - all well done .

If you were a fan of the first installment thenWrath of the Titansis die to be a welcome advance ; if you did n’t like the first film , this continuation is not going to turn your electronegative opinion . If you ’re wondering whether to shill out for the 3D just the ticket : the last half - hour is worth it , and overall the format is better - apply , but for most of the runtime it is n’t a necessity .

Wrath of the Titansis now flirt in theater everywhere . It is   Rated PG-13 for acute sequence of fantasy vehemence and natural action .
