Wonder Park

Wonder Park has a wonderfully touching message about sadness and fear set in a wildly imaginative world, with a still rather unremarkable story.

Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies connect military force on the three-D - animate children ’s filmWonder Park , the story of a youthful fille - 10 - year - sometime June Bailey ( Brianna Denski ) - who ’s fascinated with ramp up her imaginary amusement car park , only to trip across a very real and very run down rendering of that park in the woods one day . The fantasy - adventure is write by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec ( the same duo that wroteTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesand its sequelOut of the Shadows ) from a narrative they craft with Robert Gordon ( human race In Black II ) . It ’s a fine picture altogether , if   also one that ’s lacking in certain key areas . Wonder Parkhas a wonderfully touching message about sadness and fear set in a wildly imaginative world , with a still rather unremarkable account .

While much ofWonder Parktakes place in the fictional Wonderland amusement park , the premise of the celluloid hinge on June ’s kinship with her mom ( Jennifer Garner ) , since they   dream up the park together . However , when June ’s mom get sick and has to go away , June packs up the exemplar of her Mungo Park   and , in a moment of emotion , throws the blueprints she and her mom reap into the ardor . It ’s the emotional core ofWonder Parkand it works unbelievably well because the motion picture takes the sentence to develop the supportive , loving family relationship between June and her mom . Much of the first act is commit to establishing their relationship and how it intertwines with June ’s love of Wonderland .   And because that moral force is so well - developed , June ’s turn   aside from Wonderland to a more anxious mindset is all the more believable .

WhenWonder Parkactually gets to the parking area , though , the film trade in real emotional fondness for crackers sidekicks and a meandering tale that finally returns to the primary themes of the movie . When June stumble upon Wonderland , she meets real - spirit version of the park ’s talk animals that she created : the welcome turn out Boomer ( Ken Hudson Campbell ) , the refuge officer hedgehog Steve ( John Oliver ) , the wild boar Greta ( Mila Kunis ) and the beaver brothers Cooper ( Ken Jeong ) and Gus ( Kenan Thompson ) . However , the group is missing the park ’s   drive Almighty , Peanut ( Norbert Leo Butz ) , and they ’re constantly on the rill from the Chimpanzombies who are destroy the park and feed pieces of it into an ominous sour cloud in the sky . What extend from there is an dangerous undertaking through the park that takes June through various rides and section of the park she created . It ’s an   entertaining enough story that mull June ’s real - world problems in for the most part predictable path , but   gets stronger when it circle back to June ’s graphic symbol electric arc .

As for the characters that inhabit Wonderland , they ’re play to life well enough by the interpreter actor , but they ’re really just a hodgepodge of Malcolm stock   fauna crony that have appeared in renovate cinema for year . They each have one personality trait that ’s played for laughs - Boomer ’s narcolepsy - like sleep upset , Steve ’s safety consciousness , and   Gus and Cooper ’s slapstick - stylus fighting . In the case of Greta , she ’s largely used to create conflict between June and the animals and , again , that ’s the entirety of her theatrical role maturation .   As a solution , Wonder Parkis much more focussed on June ’s story ( well , when the movie   does n’t distract from June ’s story with some zany hijinks ) , but   her creature crony   are forgettable and blur together with better developed supporting characters from different movies .

Ultimately , Wonder Parkis an innocuous baby ’s movie with a good deterrent example for Kyd - and adult - about not rent fear and sadness modification who you are or   force   you to give up on your dreams . Further , the relationship between June and her mother is genuinely touching and will by all odds tug at the heartstrings - perhaps more for the grownup in the audience than their kids . As for the film ’s young viewer , Wonder Parkfeatures wad of colorful , imaginative amusement Mungo Park ideas to exalt awe , and the photographic film ’s merry 85 - minute runtime   will help to keep them engaged . all told , Wonder Parkis hold enough for any years to keep them concerned in what happens to June and Wonderland , but it ’s by no means a must - see alive flick .

In fact , the worldly concern ofWonder Parkmay be even more   exciting than the story of the celluloid itself . With a whirligig made of flying fish that actually fly and a monolithic playground slide made of bendy straws ( just to name a few of the imaginative attraction ) , one ofWonder Park’strue effectiveness is the potential of its world . Perhaps it ’s a resultant role of Nickelodeon plan to establish aWonder Parktelevision series later this year , but the motion picture never quite explores as much of Wonderland as viewers may be hoping . Thankfully , Wonder Parkdoes have a compelling enough   electric arc about June learning not to be prevail by fear , even if the fib and world do n’t quite live up to their potentiality .
