Unidentified Objectsdoes just that in a serious-minded , jarring , and familiar style . Directed by Juan Felipe Zuleta from a screenplay by Leland Frankel , Unidentified Objectsis a startling , beautiful film that research self - simulacrum , perception , and feeling like an castaway in a society that is quick to sideline instead of understand . Anchored by lovely performances by Matthew Jeffers and Sarah Hay , the movie , with its shoddy deed of conveyance , is one that is well deserving the watch .

Unidentified Objectsis a road trip drama that is warning in its handling of its themes . Peter does n’t believe Winona is telling the true statement about being chosen by aliens , but as event unfold , the estimation of therebeing extraterrestrial lifepairs with the exploration of Peter ’s lifetime and his feeling like an pariah . In one particularly excruciating picture , Peter is told to get out of the car and interrogated by a bull — or so it seems . The celluloid occasionally confuse the line between reality and dreams to great issue , bringing Peter ’s past and emotions to the forefront , and hale him to face up them rather than hide from them as he ’s done for so long . Unidentified Objectsis patient in research Peter ’s interior life story , the turmoil and grief he feels , as well as the angriness and , eventually , the wonderment at the world by the end . While the film correct up a wild premise about stranger , it is n’t concerned in focusing on the unknown . Rather , Zuleta and Frankel habituate the potential cosmos of foreigner as a jumping off level to engage with Peter ’s humanity .
indistinguishability run a crucial character inUnidentified Objects , which showcases not only how Peter perceive himself , but how he views others and vice versa . It also make out with sexuality and guilt with sensitivity and reflexion . Of of course , the photographic film would n’t be so poignant and deep if not for the outstanding execution of Matthew Jeffers . The actor , through emotive eye , expressions , inflection , and body language , masterfully conveys Peter ’s emotion . There is so much to this man and it ’s bottle up so recondite that , for some sentence , it feels like Peter will never open up . However , Jeffers is able to dislodge between Peter ’s snappish temper and his exposure quite well , showing the audience how multifaceted the character truly is . Sarah Hay is also fantastic , imbuing Winona with simple wonder , sensibility , and guts . Like Peter , Winona is n’t only what people see on the surface and Hay portrays her dimension wondrous .
All that said , Unidentified Objectsdoesn’t give Winona as much characterization and interiority as Peter . She has less to do and is more so a fellow on his own personal journey than anything . While the actors have great alchemy together , the floor could have explored Winona further . What ’s more , the film does slow down at the halfway point before it picks back up again , almost as though it was jump to run a routine out of route before it finds its path back . To be sure , these things do n’t take away from the film ’s timber . It ’s compelling and challenging , centering two multitude who would n’t have been friend at all had they not taken an unexpected route trip together . With nuanced performance and a serious-minded exploration of ego , Unidentified Objectsis worth the ticker .
