OneStar Trek : Strange New Worldsepisode was"harder"for Celia Rose Gooding thanStar Trek ’s first - ever melodious . Despite the extra rehearsal need , Strange New Worlds ' melodious , " Subspace Rhapsody , " was in the Grammy Award - winning Celia Rose Gooding ’s pilothouse . But anotherStrange New Worldsseason 2 outingchallenged Gooding emotionally and pushed her - as well as her grapheme , Ensign Nyota Uhura - to their limits .

In an interview withAwards RadaraboutStar Trek : Strange New Worlds , where Celia Rose Gooding spoke in detail about how film the horror - themedStar Trek : Strange New Worldsseason 2 , episode 6 , " lose in Translation " , was"uncomfortable , but necessarily uncomfortable"because it showed both Gooding and Uhura at their"most vulnerable . ““Lost in interlingual rendition " , however , allowed Gooding to team up with Paul Wesley ’s Lieutenant James T. Kirk . Read Celia ’s inverted comma below and mark outAwards Radar ’s interview in the link above .

“ Lost in transformation ” was a monumental project . I imagine , frankly , it was harder than the musical installment for me emotionally . I think the melodic installment , it was very intimate to me . It ’s a wheelhouse that I ’ve lived in for the majority of my sprightliness . And so , when I was tasked with a revulsion installment , necessitate somebody who is of course quite anxious and does not watch horror movies . Yeah . It was unquestionably a heavy project for me because I really had to put Celia ’s fears aside and really embrace that . We ’re really not hold back and exhibit how psychic trauma affects a person ’s mentality , their emotional wellbeing , their genial health . And Uhura , someone who really pride herself on her ability to just keep going , we see her really break-dance down in a way that … I have something very similar to Uhura , where it ’s my instinct to just keep snuff it and to really deny that inherent aptitude and really sit in this very offend , very vulnerable , very soft and overweight place . It was very uncomfortable .

It was uncomfortable , but inevitably uncomfortable . It was so interesting to really display how haunted Uhura is and how vulnerable she has to be with her crew mates , and really , with Paul Wesley as Captain [ sic ] Kirk . I ’ve really had to spread up to Kirk in a room that is not an inherent aptitude for me personally . And Uhura , I think this was the most vulnerable she had been on camera for the first few seasons . This is probably one of her most vulnerable moments where she ’s express to the superior police officer that she just does not think she can go on , which is a bountiful great deal , especially for a legacy character , especially for a reference as beloved and as historic as Uhura . To learn her say , “ I do n’t believe I can do this any longer , ” is really , it ’s a gut punch . It displays her humanity in a way that I think we have n’t had an opportunity to really see …

Dan Liu , our director , Dan Liu , he really shepherd me through that process . And I ’m very , very grateful for him . I do n’t call back I would ’ve been able to really show up the way I postulate to show up in this instalment without him .

Celia Rose Gooding ’s Nyota Uhura has proven to be one of the MVPs of Star Trek : Strange New Worlds , as saved the Enterprise multiple time .
