As is the case with many plastic film of late , The Outfitsuffers a minute in its nearly two - 60 minutes runtime that undercuts the tautness and momentum of the film . 105 minutes may not seem long , but considering the tempo of this film and how much of it is dedicated to   Leonard monologuing , the film could have been a thin 90 minutes and it would have been good for it . That said , the film is a delight to sit around through otherwise . There is an ease and self-assurance with which director Graham Moore brings each element ofThe Outfit — which Moore co - wrote with Johnathan McClain — together . Fans of Alfred Hitchcock and the halcyon earned run average of 1950s Hollywood thriller will savor the sumptuous production design and the effortless pace at which   the film ’s story unfolds .

Mark Rylance is a precious stone and he inhabits this role perfectly . The Outfitwould not succeed without Rylance ’s demure and mysterious performance . The film is tailored specifically to accommodate   the thespian as his case navigate a unsafe night with gangsters . The only histrion to get along nigh to reaching Rylance ’s level is Johnny Flynn   as Francis , a untested lieutenant who is in every path , shape , and forge the opposite of the cutting tool . The thrilling juxtaposition of these characters convey much of the second turn of this flick . Flynn may seem more suited for this film over his other co - stars as his   Chicago accent is less derogatory than Dylan O’Brien ’s and a tad piece more prominent than Zoey Deutch ’s . However , O’Brien and Deutch , and much of the rest ensemble roll , have an undeniable charm . Deutch , in particular , is a surprising delight , specially in the third human activity of the film where she gets more to do . The underutilized , but wonderful Nikki Amuka - Bird makes use of her limited time onscreen and leaves a live impression .

The Outfitis an exquisite piece of music that draws upon crime   syndicate and seamster history , roll up in the luxurious consolation of overnice costume and a perfect production design . Gemma Jackson   especially deserves a stave of applause for transporting   viewers to an refined suit shop in 1950s Chicago . Aside from the length of the movie , which is made to sense longer than it is , The Outfitis so salutary it warrant   more than one watch .   It is n’t a distinctive thriller in the sense that one wonder who is the killer whale or what is in the briefcase . Rather , the film is merely an examination of Leonard —   watching him as he squirms , prevarication , beguiler , fools and push his way to condom throughout the night .   The celluloid is double-dyed for Rylance and Rylance alone and the role player knocks it out of the common .

The Outfitis   an old - fashioned and masterfully craft crime thriller that make unspoiled use of its setting , charismatic cast and an excellent atomic number 82 . It is implausibly engaging to watch as the central human body is an enigma deserving investigating . As O’Brien ’s character dismisses him as just an old sartor , the audience is well aware that there is more than meets the centre for the well - spoken gentleman , whose wanted pair of shears are as penetrating as his brainpower and glossa .
