Midnight Meat Train
Screen Rant reviewsThe Midnight Meat Train
First , I have to introduce this with the fact that I have not seen a lot of films based on Clive Barker ’s work . The idea of excessive gore just does n’t puzzle out for me and I tend to dodge or duck moving picture that comprise it . If I find myself stuck in a movie like this , I tend to squint . It smudge the details and I can get through it . My only vulnerability to Barker ’s work has beenHellraiserandCandyman . I remember being grossed out withHellraiser , but that ’s that . I ’ve normally run screaming from the room when I hear a Clive Barker task is coming on the screen . It ’s embarrassing , really , but I ca n’t help it .
I watchedThe Midnight Meat Train(screenplay by Jeff Buhler ) onFEARnet.comand sit through the stock case development that at first seemed fairly mundane . But being mundane , it just sets you up for belated developments . Japanese filmmaker , music director Ryûhei Kitamura did his job with this one .
Leon Kauffman ( Bradley Cooper ) is a photographer take care to take his picture taking to the next level and have it displayed in an art gallery , hop for his first gaolbreak . He likes photograph the city and things within it , but it ’s not enough for the prominent art gallerist Susan Hoff ( Brooke Shields ) . She want him to take it the next level and get more grit , more of the substantial emotion of the city .
His pursuit of this gloomy element of the city takes his way of life across a stoical , wordless , meticulous botcher discover Mahogany . No , really , that ’s his day job ! A blunderer . Mahogany is played by Vinnie Jones . You might remember him as Juggernaut fromX - Men : The Last Stand .
As Leon delves into the background of Mahogany , thing get more complicated as he realizes that he ’s on the lead of what looks like a sequent killer whale . Mahogany plain has killed many mass , and dumps the inauspicious victim off somewhere . He locate his victim on the late train of the twenty-four hour period , as the title suggests .
Pursuing this murderer sucks Leon and his girlfriend , Maya ( Leslie Bibb ) into the intricate situation of why Mahogany does what he does . And let me tell you , it is not only a complete surprise , but the base of people who know what he ’s doing is surprising as well . The literal shock comes in the the nature of the real threat and the resolution of the position .
Despite my really wanting to say how the tale end , to say anything more would ruin how you get set up for the story and the payoff . ( Sorry )
observation :
The Midnight Meat Train follows photographer Leon Kauffman’s investigation into a series of gruesome murders that all occur on late-night subway trains. Directed by Ryuhei Kitamura and based on a short story by Clive Barker, the film stars Bradley Cooper, Leslie Bibb, and Vinnie Jones. As Leon delves deeper, he confronts both a terrifying conspiracy and his own descent into darkness.
Bradley Cooper deliver a great operation . From being the ever promising , struggling and hard working photographer to the traumatized victim of circumstance , he is rather credible . I was a slight gray on the last secret plan , but I still really bask the twist ending and could overlook the vagueness of how he got there .
Brooke Shields has come a long way from an innocent little girl on an island , toSuddenly Susanand most recently , the unvoiced workings executive onLipstick Jungle . InMidnight Meat Train , she ’s an graphics gallery proprietor who prefers her male lensman good looking and individual . Her role is integral to Leon ’s projection into his predicament , but not much more . It ’s a credible but scant office .
Leslie Bibb ( I just see her inIron Man … as the reporter who ignites the fires under Tony Stark ) plays a function that confused me . At first , she ’s the supportive girlfriend who ’s behind her photog boyfriend . As Leon discovers the verity behind Mahogany , Maya assay to deter him from getting too cryptical in this moody designation . In the end , she gets aright in the middle of it and it just does n’t mousse with me , but that ’s o.k. . Her role fulfills a piece of plot portion by the story ’s end .
possibly I ’m off in the point a routine , but I liked English - born actor and ex - footballer , Vinnie Jones . His portrayal of Mahogany is stoic and silent , yet his substance is have clear . The main dick of his by-line is a massive silver hammer / meat tenderiser . Whether he uses it as a tool of law-breaking or weapon of defense , he puts this hammer to effective use . Almost like a modern day , darkThor . His soundless approaching to the character does not hamper his character one moment . His victim are treated just like as he would slabs of kernel at his day chore : He meticulously dress their body before taking their bodies to his deck footing .
I ca n’t trust it , but I may really be seem onward to this when it hits the videodisc earthly concern in February of 2009 . If you do n’t mind gore , I think you ’d come out really enjoy this finicky 1 hour and 40 minute train ride , all the way through to the last of the day , or midnight that is .
