The Book of Eli

Screen Rant reviewsThe Book of Eli

TheBook of Elistars Denzel Washington as a lone wanderer , make his away across a post - atomic holocaust America , scavenging and scraping to exist - and well adept at it . The picture opens with a really fascinating setting , lento panning across a wooded area cover in ash , and with more ash still fall from the sky . Here we get our first appearance to Eli ( Denzel ) , and a flavour for his skills and longanimity .

thing are desolate and times are desperate - there are n’t a lot of hoi polloi left alive , and it ’s been long enough since the destructive consequence that anything Eli comes across has already been wholly cull over by other people scavenge to survive . We do n’t converge anyone else for a while , spending time with Eli alone , and it gives us a feel for his solitary existence .

Eventually he comes to a Ithiel Town run by man named Carnegie ( Gary Oldman ) . Carnegie has been charge out a pack of dirtbag marauders to look for a mysterious Christian Bible that he believes will give him power . Eli is just passing through but of row we have the required bar fighting which bring him to the attention of Carnegie . Carnegie is impressed by Eli ’s treatment of himself against multiple opponent and wants him to appease - but Eli is on a journey and this is not his final destination . Eli meets Solara ( Mila Kunis ) , who at first is employed to endeavor to get cooperation from Eli establish on her , uh , womanly guile .

Of of course it turns out that Eli has the Scripture that Carnegie has been seeking and has no design of turn it over to be used for evil purposes , and from here on out the narration is about Carnegie seek to get the ledger from Eli , and having a difficult time of it despite seemingly sustain the upper mitt in both manpower and arm .

I struggled with whether I should mention which ledger Eli is bear … Frankly I do n’t view it a looter , as it seems to me that it ’s obvious , and it ’s difficult to talk about the film without talking about the book . But still … if you do n’t want to know what the Holy Writ is , I suggest you give up scan now and skip to the death of the revue .

The Book of Eli review

.

The book is the King James reading of the Bible . It seems that for some unknown reason , it ’s the last be copy - all transcript of it were destroy and the bad put away - away reasonableness given in the moving picture badger me , because it was much more desirable to another spiritual book of account .

For an universal gas constant - rat movie where people are getting chopped up by Denzel and his big honkin ' knife , the film is quite spiritual . It ’s kind of an odd combination that the Hughes crony come up with here … I ’m not indisputable who the audience is for this film . While it has some great action specify pieces ( Denzel ’s first meeting with bad guys was awesome , and just seeing him as a bad - fanny in general is great ) , on the other hired hand some may consider that the moving-picture show is proselytizing . So I would suppose that the bally , roentgen - rated violence would ferment off some Christians who are draw to spiritual moving-picture show and the laboured relgious theme might annoy folk who just need to see an action movie .

Denzel Washington Safe House

Written by Gary Whitta and directed by The Hughes Brothers, The Book of Eli is a neo-Western featuring Denzel Washington in the lead role. The 2010 release sees Washington take on the mantle of Eli, a man who travels a post-apocalyptic version of the United States and ends up attempting to stop a dangerous group of people from controlling the masses via a strange book.

The film seems to want to say that the Bible ( or religion in general ) can be used for good or misuse for evil . No parameter there , but it seems an odd combination with the post - apocalyptic story line .

Denzel Washington is always outstanding to watch in a role , and Gary Oldman just as much . It was nice to see Ray Stevenson stake - Punisher and there some nice cameos by Tom Waits and Michael Gambon ( Gambon ’s aspect is quite funny in a dark way ) . As cunning as Mila Kunis is and as severely as she ’s trying , she really does n’t seem to belong in the same scene as Denzel or Oldman .

Overall the movie feel scratchy , like it ca n’t make up its mind what kind of film it want to be , or is an stillborn merger of two different stories . The first one-half of the film seems more self - check and functions as a very good post - apocalypse picture - but unluckily , the movie become very weak towards the end . And the very end almost seems hang on on from some other film and disconnected . I ’ve heard the ending described as a great kink - but to me it seemed like a very disappointing anti - climax . There are things that are left unexplained … like where Denzel commence his awesome warriorlike arts skills and why he ’s so hard to bolt down . Actually it seems the explanation may be ghostlike , but that ’s speculation on my part - which again some mass may like and others may recover vexing .

I really work back and forth on this one , trying to make up one’s mind how I felt about it ( I detest it when I ca n’t make up my mind about a movie ) . In the close I settle to bump it past the 50 % patsy for way , exploit , Denzel , Oldman and the fact that the first one-half of the movie is really quite gripping . This one is a tough call as far as making a recommendation - if you do n’t have a problem with a film where the zep portrays religion in a confirming luminance ( barring all the , you sleep together , chopping mass to bits ) and are a buff of action and the aforementioned actors , you might desire to giveThe Book of Elia whirl .
