That ’s whereSri Asih : The Warriorcomes in . organize by Upi from a screenplay conscientious objector - written alongside Joko Anwar , the socially conscious Indonesian action picture combines mythology , MMA , and superhero tropes to land us a mostly piquant film with slick fight sequences and intriguing , if passably hollow , twist that keep our attention . While the storey itself is now and then too stuffed for its own good , and drags a fleck after the Battle of Midway point , Sri Asihdelivers cleared , sharp action and an empowering story .

Sri Asihhas a good buildup before unleashing the full breadth of its chroma , and it ’s at least an hr into its two - hour runtime before Alana finds out about the lawful office running in her vein . This allows the film to lay the proper groundwork for the story , giving us Alana ’s history , and innovate all major characters before giving the fabulous exposition that finally moves the film toward Alana ’s last confrontation with her enemy . The aroused connection is between Alana and her mother , and it ’s that outfox spunk that keeps the film going .
The action sequence are tricksy , concise and well-off to observe . There are n’t too many stylistic tucket beyond Alana ’s superhero abilities , and the antagonist ’s wispy disappearances , but they get the job done . The fight stage dancing is marvellous , and cinematographer Arfian keeps these scenes lit in a way that highlights the action mechanism . We never lose sight of what ’s going on , and the fights truly take a puncher , especially when Alana really lets loose . She ’s promiscuous to settle for and Pearce is good in the role , though there is n’t enough nicety in the delineation . Reza Rahadian as Jatmiko is also a standout , and his thwarting , ira and occasional kindness is written in his eye and facial grammatical construction .
What ultimately hold the film back is its overlong runtime , the lack of profundity when it comes to the magnanimous villain twist , andSri Asih’soverly serious tone . At nearly two hours and 15 minutes long , the redaction could have cut down on the motion-picture show ’s length , tightening the story and ramp up the importunity as a result . The film takes itself too seriously as well , and though Alana ’s childhood friend , Tangguh ( Jefri Nichol ) , brings explosion of humour , there is piffling levity throughout . This brings the modality down , especially as some of the aspects of the story are n’t entirely flesh out . To that closing , the twist regarding the rightful indistinguishability ofSri Asih’sbig bad comes a bit too recently , and without much account regarding motivation . The thespian does a fabulous job play the reference , but there ’s niggling abstract thought behind the twist beyond it being a gasp - worthy minute .
Sri Asihmay not be the most memorable superhero cinema out there , but its mix of MMA style fight scenes and mythology offer something unequalled to the genre . There ’s a peck going on , and some things are result by the wayside , but even if the socially conscious vista are on the olfactory organ , they ’re at least a central part of the narrative . now and again acute and always interesting , Sri Asihis certainly worth a sentinel .
