Sometimes I Think About Dying
These Day it feel like we ’re more affiliated than ever before — be it through Zoom calls , social media , or texting and FaceTime , it ’s easy to simply reach out to anyone at any full point . And yet , the look of disconnect is also very real , leave multitude hunger connection but not knowing how to get it , or what it might imply when it does happen . Directed by Rachel Lambert , Sometimes I opine About Dyingtackles this very capable with miscellaneous results . Anchored by strong performances from Daisy Ridley and Dave Merheje , the film has pacing issue , but it ’s emotionally resonating , humourous , and relatable .
The moving picture succeed Fran ( Daisy Ridley ) , an business office employee who diligently work from her cubicle every day , watching lifespan as it goes by . She ’s seemingly uninterested in engaging with her coworkers ’ mundane conversations , split herself both mentally and physically from them . Fran often cogitate about die , fancy herself on the wood trading floor , her dead body covered in vegetation , or being lifted by a Grus . Fran seems destined to continue down this route , a subprogram she ’s become habitual to in her smooth life — until Robert ( Dave Merheje ) , a Modern guy cable at workplace , starts interact with her , bringing to the surface her out of sight desire for connection .

Sometimes I consider About Dyingstarts off fairly slow , and it takes a while for it to pick up . But when it does , the film , write by Kevin Armento , Stefanie Abel Horowitz , and Katy Wright - Mead , is a thoughtful expression into the need for human connection , and what it looks like when it ’s awakened for the first time in a long time . Fran ’s convert herself that she ’s uninteresting , and thus builds a wall around herself . What the film nails are the opinion of being too good for the day-to-day and monotone interactions with others , while also want to feel seen and connected to someone .
This is showcased wonderfully through Fran ’s time with Robert . She shifts between need to hang out with him and being interested in his spirit to being guarded and afraid to really show herself , perhaps afraid of rejection or to be disliked for revealing certain things she ’s kept to herself . Ridley ’s operation speak to the nuances of Fran ’s interactions with Robert . Ridley contain the movie , and she does a lovely job bringing audiences into Fran ’s outlook through her trunk language , mannerisms , and line delivery . Equally tremendous is Merheje as Robert , who is concerned in Fran , but careful and hesitant in his interactions with her as he works to understand her . The pair is great together and Merheje ’s comedic timing brings out the better in their onscreen relationship .
Sometimes I Think About Dyingalso tackles sadness and solitariness in a elbow room that allows insight into Fran ’s earth . Though there could have been a bit more of an internal exploration of Fran ’s feelings , the film aggregate plenty of lightheartedness and humor with its overarching darkness , with Lambert bringing balance to the heavy and foresighted stretches of silence that loiter throughout . The pic finds its sense of humor in the daily routines of people — from brew coffee to making small talk with coworkers , these moments show the fatuity of life ’s minutiae while also displaying how these very action have deeper meaning of people trying to reach out to others in their own manner .
If nothing else , Sometimes I Think About Dyingis hindered by its slow tempo . The picture takes its time go to the heart of its story , lean in with too much setup at the start . It does n’t jump the photographic film , but it does require patience before viewers are pay back with the beautiful , heartfelt , and refreshing story at its centre .
