A decent action movie that tries to be deeper than it actually is.
Shooter , starring Mark Wahlberg is the story of a Black Ops sniper who is falsely accused of an assassination . Wahlberg plays Bob Lee Swagger , one of the top crack shot in the world , who lives in a self - imposed deportee after an operation in Africa goes ill . The film also asterisk Michael Pena who deport a decent performance and Danny Glover as an effective bad guy . Ned Beatty does a really squeamish occupation as a pestiferous senator and Kate Mara is in the film to serve as the inevitable romanticistic interest , damosel in distress and heart confect .
The film opens with Swagger and his longtime friend and spotter ( the someone who gives the shooter range to point , malarky information , etc . ) in Africa , allow for natural covering for U.S. forces on a local road . Swagger ’s awe-inspiring acquisition is demonstrated as he picks off moving butt with apparent comfort , but the operation soon goes defective , leaving him and his supporter to resist for themselves in hostile district .
Cut to Swagger living in a cabin out in the boonies sometime later with no one for company but his dog . He ’s approach by Colonel Isaac Johnson ( Danny Glover ) who want him to plan an assassination of the President . The purpose is to test to happen upon the most likely locating of an try that the Colonel say will be made against the President within the next couple of weeks . It was interesting to see how he would escape from an area with so much FBI , Secret Service and police reportage in the backwash of the character assassination attempt , although it seemed to me to be farfetched at a crucial mo . away from that I liked how it was handled .
During his escapism he comes in liaison with a newbie FBI agentive role and tell the agent that he ’s ( Swagger ) being plant up . This sets up doubt in the agent ’s mind ( Nick Memphis , played by Pena ) and he starts to work outside the chain of command to seek to assemble together what really happen . I was really hoping they ’d nullify the platitude of having to stupefy a romance in the movie , but sure as heck , they did . Swagger blend to his stagnant buddy ’s bride-to-be Sarah Fenn ( trifle by Kate Mara ) for assistance and she gets take up into the proceedings .
There ’s a bit of machination as the hearing tries to figure out just how the heck Swagger is going to get out of this post when it seems that there are such knock-down people with incredible resources at their command working against him . Also there ’s a bonnie amount of legal action include fight scenes and lots of shootout . However there was n’t really anything in the film that " wow’d " me … sort of a see it once and forget it picture show . They tried to inject political machination into the photographic film , but it felt kind of force and plane to me .
I really like Wahlberg , but it seemed like he was a bit out of his depth here . Either that or the character just was n’t written as well as it could have been . view how specialized Swagger ’s attainment was , and the fact that it was concern to rent out object at a VERY long distance , I found his amazing hand to hand combat acquirement a bit improbable . Why would a long - distance marksman be that adept at fighting ? If they ’d launch him as an all - around particular ops guy from the offset it would have worked better in my opinion . This also devil me later on in the photographic film when he planned a very elaborate attack . I just imagine it was too much from the type . They take up out with a military marksman , but by the end of the picture show he was Rambo .
