Scarfis a visually arresting 3D puzzle - platformer and adventure game developed by Uprising Studio andpublished by THQ Nordic . It watch over Hyke , a magical spirit , as he   and his polymorphic scarf figure out various puzzle , help other drop off souls in their pursuit to meld with nature , and see what it mean to be a hero . This is the   tale blurb found inScarf ’s   selling material and that ’s important to clarify because   very little   of that   is made clear whilst playing the game .

What is   clear , however , is how funScarfis to toy and   explore . develop Studio utilized Unreal Engine 4 to make beautifully elaborate environments that are impregnate with people of color , radiating with illumination , and provide a welcomed spirit of peace . Players navigate throughScarf ’s three   worlds by running , jumping , and apply their scarf joint to glide , vacillation , and two-fold jumping . These worlds are inhabited by spirits , including the scarf itself , and each   one requires musician to find their respective life bysolving shrine puzzles ,   environmental puzzler , and mechanical puzzles .

The puzzles are not very hard but are quite apt . One particular section that brook out was in the wood world that demand the actor to apply   multiple systems in edict to succeed .   Whilst exploring each populace , players can trip up across   three unlike moody orbs foretell Inks , which unwrap a different linear perspective to the story once enough are pick up . Unfortunately , that dissimilar perspective becomes quite confusing as one would often forget there ’s a fib at all .

Scarfis for the most part wordless , trust on strong-arm expression to tell its taradiddle but whenever an ink is collected or a specific cutscene come , narrative short cut in . It ’s clean that the information being delivered in these moments is mean to build off what the histrion   while together , but there ’s not much that allows the instrumentalist to do so . The trivial bit of story that can be pieced together   is at odds withthe   history that it marketsand a spoiler - free example of this   occurs   within the gameplay loop itself .

The open narration talks about a Mother spirit being torn to shreds by other disembodied spirit for its power and the scarf ’s seeking is to take that power back . As players are about to enter the first world , a here and now play out where the scarf morphs into a sinister claw and seems to drain a spirit of its vigor and then Hyke just move along like nothing ever fall out . This prospect plays out at the end of each region , and it feels strange and out of character every clip - especially given that Hyke is suppose to " memorise what it intend to be a hero . "

Even as the concluding moments pass off , which also feel like it come out of nowhere , it   did n’t feel like the player   was a sub . Given the howling automobile mechanic , design , personality , andnarrative intentionsofScarf , the confusing storytelling is   unfortunate but , thankfully , does n’t   make the game any less gratifying .   While it ’s never fun to campaign story to the by-line , doing so will lease players get lost inScarf ’s beautiful world and have an right-down blast during its short but sweet playtime .
