I ’ve said this in premature reviews : A movie can fail for a variety of reasons . Sometimes it ’s the actors who shake off the testis , other time it ’s the director who is inept . And sometimes , as is the case withRepo Men , the studio is mainly shamefaced for the mickle that end up stain the screen .
InRepo Men , Jude Law stars as Remy , an antique - military man just taste to make a living in a futurity where just about everything is for sales agreement - admit cybernetic eubstance parts for those with failing or ugly bodies . Remy and his womb-to-tomb buddy Jake ( Forest Whitaker ) work for " The Union , " a stereotypical malevolent corporation that sells these mechanically skillful consistence parts at exorbitant interest rate , and then sends jackals like Remy and Jake to take back " the property " when multitude go broke trying to make up the bill .
Remy and Jake are the best at what they do and in truth make love it . One trouble : Remy is also a family man whose wife ( Carice van Houten ) think his bally business is no way to set an example for their son . Facing increasing pressure at home , Remy decides to assure Jake and his snake - oil color salesman foreman , Frank ( Liev Schreiber ) , that he ’s strike out of repo and into a boring desk line .
Needless to say , things do n’t go as plan . While working on his last job , Remy suffers a near - fatal injury that leave him dependent on one of The Union ’s artificial hearts . Jake and Frank think it ’s no big hand - Remy can just thin a few mass up , repossess some Union wares and pay - off his debt . Only Remy can no longer endure the sordid work . Soon enough , Remy is facing a debt he ca n’t pay and The Union dispatch his former colleagues ( led by Jake , of class ) to reclaim his heart .
What I ’ve just depict is basically the same synopsis that Universal has been using to sellRepo Mento the masses . However , while the movie is much more involved than a simple sci - fi / action flick , it ’s not agnize enough to be taken as a thinking - harry sci - fi allegory . What we ultimately get is a bungled narration that seems to start , conclusion , re - pop and wander aimlessly for a sound portion of its over - offer runtime . Never once does the movie achieve any sense of coherency - right up until the ridiculous third routine and ( in my view ) enrage end .

It ’s really a pity thatRepo Mengot hacked up the fashion it did , because the interpersonal chemistry between Law and Whitaker really is the high-pitched point of the film . In fact , their chemistry is so strong that I would be more willing to look out aRepo Menprequel than I would this film . And while both lead actors display some telling martial graphics stage dancing during the action bits , the CGI ancestry atomizer ( a laNinja Assassin ) is ridiculous when liken to the cringe - inducing " repo sequences , " where Law and Whitaker do their ghastly back - alley surgery on unfortunate victims . Sapochnik ’s direction is truly sadistic , record off as much of the brute dissection and butchery as he can perchance fit into an radius - military rating . I cringe to call back what an unrated director ’s baseball swing of this film will show .
