Will nature run its course ? The player traverse across deserts , dense jungle , ancient temples , and dark caverns . Subtle details like the movement of primordial beasts in the distance to the ebb and stream of anemone - like plants make a copious and layered environment .
In the same spirit of the beautiful backgrounds , the character designs are colorful and light . The adventurer is almost a blank slate , humanoid and featureless , allowing the player to place their own reading on his / her bloodline . The robots are like 1950s space invader , adorable even as they laser their room through nature .
Past its arresting visuals , Planet Alphahas little else to offer . The gameplay is at times both tedious and frustratingly hard . clip is split between physics - base puzzles , stealth sections , and basic platforming . Each one has its summit : the discovery that a giant skeleton can be used to shell your enemies , find an alternate route below the watching golem eyes , and tense chase sequences from a giant creature . Yet there ’s a surprising want of polish when it comes to the mechanics .
The puzzles are very traditional . Move a blockage to the right to create a stepping gemstone for admission to higher primer . on occasion back - track to find an additional block . Planet Alpha ’s platforming misses the mark solely . Most of the gameplay need leap across gaps , stick to the leafage on the drop-off - side . It would be enjoyable , possibly even tranquil at times , but the finicky auto-mechanic make it toilsome to tell when a jump is possible . Often times a player will die without any idea how they miss a leap that seemed simple . These sections are systematically frustrating . When duck in mellow grass or other botany , the player stay unseen by the enemy . But sometimes even the little motion straight off alerts them to your location . Other sentence the thespian can immediately route a pursuing robot by simply ducking in the grass , even if the robot is watching them during this natural action . This can leave in some accidentally hilarious gameplay . On the flip side , the consequence for failure is extreme here : most of the foeman instantly kill the player . The player will often find themselves attempt to sprint through tougher subdivision , waiting for inordinate sum of fourth dimension for enemies to land up their rhythm , or reprise areas due to small error of movement . These stealth sections highlight a key problem withPlanet Alpha : it sets its sights for the moon but never quite take off .

They have no connective to this land , but act on its with child mysteries . 2D platformers are define in their design , and inPlanet Alpha , it really shows . The write up ’s secretiveness does not speak volumes here ; it say nothing . The game may take you to the depth of a major planet ’s effect , but on its grander themes , it fails to ever grave the surface .
