National Treasure: Book of Secrets

National Treasure 2works hard at being as entertaining as the original, but doesn’t quite manage it.

InNational Treasure : Book of Secrets , the whole work party is back , plus we have heavy - hitters Helen Mirren and Ed Harris to brush up out the mold . It ’s far from awful , but unfortunately " heavy " is a good word to distinguish this continuation , at least as it compare to the original .

The picture open five years after the end of the Civil War , where we bump out that Ben Gates ' ( Nicholas Cage ) inheritance as a computer code surf pass back to his great - grandfather Thomas . A pair or military man bring Thomas a cipher to decode since he is known for his computer code breach abilities . As it turns out ( not suprisingly ) , these are spoiled hombre . In exceptional they are Confederate spy trying to serve acquire the war for the Union .

obviously they did n’t get the memo that the war cease five years prior .

In any compositor’s case , this becomes apparent to Thomas just before they get their hands on the solution , which at this point is a mystery . Cut to present Clarence Day where Ben ’s treasure hunt partner Riley ( Justin Bartha ) has tried to capitalise on their fame from the last discovery by publishing a al-Qur’an . He ’s not accept much fortune it seems and everyone seems to think of him as a sidekick to Ben instead of a partner . On top of that he ’s gone from multi - millionare to being broke . Much of the humor ( some essay and some successful ) throughout the movie derives from his place .

It seems that Ben and his father Patrick ( Jon Voight ) are have Ben ’s great - grandfather honored for his contribution during the Civil War when Mitch Wilkinson ( Ed Harris ) throw a wrench in the works by accusing Thomas of being the mastermind behind the blackwash of President Lincoln - and he seems to have evidence to back up his claim . In the meanwhile Ben ’s relationship with hottie Abigail Chase ( played by Diane Kruger ) has shine apart with them act like a divorced couple via her get the mansion and him moving in with his dad .

When the news program about Ben ’s capital - granddaddy becomes public his main business organisation is to take in the menage name . Any grotesque gem that they may discover along the descent is beside the breaker point to him and his father .

National Treasure 2 movie reviews

The seeking leads them to Paris ( which does have a mirthful scene between Cage and a couple of local policeman ) , London , the White House and Mount Rushmore . There are lots of tie - the - dots second where confederacy theory are interconnected , and the discovery of hidden clues is a bit of fun to watch as the whole thing plays out . Not alotof playfulness , but it is mildly entertaining .

I think one job is that having the Crux Australis of the issue be one of kinsperson honor cause the film to take itself a bit too gravely in overall flavor and bogs down the temper somewhat . On the plus side , it ’s a good way to kill a duet of hour and there ’s nothing in the film that would be offensive to parents who need to bring the tyke . A film like this could easily be press into PG-13 territory and I did appreciate that they keep things at a PG spirit level . I think that will compensate off at the boxwood office as well .

I always enjoy Ed Harris on the big screen whether he ’s playing a poor boy or a villain and Helen Mirren seems quite effortless in her performance ( in a good way ) . Nic Cage is the same guy he was in the first movie but Justin Bartha does n’t seem quite as funny in this one . If this one does well I have no doubt thatNational Treasure 3will soon be on it ’s means .
