Mother/Android
In the mankind ofMother / Android , humans have become dependent on engineering science . Specifically , using androids for a compass of needs — from working as personal help at abode , construction worker , teacher aides , warehouse workers , you name it . The film ’s assumption is not whole original as there have been many sci - fi films that take on human catch concerning a technology - dependent high society . Sadly , Mother / Androiddoesn’t do anything particularly interesting with the premise or take viewers on an intimate journey along with the characters . As the motion-picture show get to its climax , the tone and subgenre of the motion picture switch from a personal drama with element of sci - fi to a sci - fi actioner with a number of drama . But no matter what literary genre of film it ’s tackle , the ancestor of the problem is the special character development . Viewers will sympathise with them , but the script does n’t give that additional push to fully root for them .
Chloë Grace Moretz and Algee Smith play Georgie and Sam , severally , a new college couple who are on the verge of a newfangled stage in their lives . Georgia is significant and not thrilled by it . Sam like about her , but he does n’t seem to know the correct thing to say to facilitate Georgia ’s stress . On the same night they take three pregnancy tests , the world changes . Suddenly the docile robotic helper has decide to wipe out mankind , Terminator - style . The young couple faces more and more hard decisions as Georgia reaches the end of her pregnancy .

With a lackluster optical pallet , the film requires compelling character to keep witness engaged . But the flick rapidly lose steam as it progresses with small development regarding its cardinal fictitious character ' family relationship . The story begins with the cognition that Georgia intend to break up with Sam , but their circumstances being what they are , they stay together . The story of a twosome wield a kinship , despite being incompatible , is interesting . Especially when they ’re throw into a account about the humanity being on the brink of extermination thanks to homicidal androids . The film lingers on themes that it does n’t work hard enough to explore more profoundly . Unfortunately , author - director Mattson Tomlin go wrong to give depth to his feature film directorial entry , though he is an challenging narrator with a lot of promise .
Moretz and Smith have proven to be capable thespian in the past , but here they stumble through stilted dialog and melodrama that does n’t proffer much for them to play with . Moretz manages to extract it together as she has a bit more to do , but with limited character maturation there is small gained from her carrying into action . Meanwhile , Raúl Castillo ( who plays Arthur ) comes in like a wrecking ball as the least highly-developed character , and yet the most interesting one . Arthur contribute with him a whole other facet to the sci - fi film and it is the one that offer the most compelling plot of land point in Georgia ’s journey . Castillo also has to contest with some flat dialogue , but that is n’t enough to torpedo his presence onscreen .
Mother / Androidhinges upon the audience identifying with Georgia and the hard choices she has to make to survive and give her shaver a fortune . The treacherous journey she undergoes to get to a gravy boat that offers safe enactment to Korea is filled with heartbreak and fondness - pounding action . As the chronicle dive into the grueling region of her journey , however , the emotionally charged moments feel like they ’re too little , too belated . The base put down in the first and second acts of the motion-picture show ca n’t carry the turn in the third turn , and it sure as shooting ca n’t comport the luggage that comes with Castillo ’s character . The film fumbles through some on - the - olfactory organ dialogue and stand grapheme that are simply archetypes and wooden as the trees . Needless to say , there is n’t enough to keep this celluloid afloat for its nearly two - hour runtime .
Ultimately , the pic is buck between two versions of Georgia ’s survival story — one that does n’t directly engage with the androids and one that does . Mother / Androidhas some very interesting ideas , but can not balance its themes while simultaneously maintaining pastime in its leading characters . Perhaps if this were a miniseries it would give this public and its characters room to become more than just open ideas .
