There are n’t many side - splitting gags , and the story , in many shipway , is schematic ; however , the movieremains catch nonetheless , and is sure to kindle a few chuckles from the audience . Starring Judy Greer and Melanie Lynskey , Lady of the Manor is a delightful ( if predictable ) clowning that highlight its talented casting .
Lynskey playact Hannah , a stoner - slacker who hits rock bottom after bad luck and poor judgement result in her being arrested . Homeless and with nowhere to go , she climb up at the chance to move into the historic home of Wadsworth Manor and give tours while in character as Lady Wadsworth , a Southern belle who died in 1875 . Not astonishingly , Hannah is ill - suited for the job , and her worthlessness rapidly attracts the ire of the real Lady Wadsworth ( play by Greer ) who haunts the home base .

Lynskey shines as Hannah , the rudderless , classless stoner screw - up . The actor unabashedly embraces forcible humor inLady of the Manorand really commits to the gag . There are a few laugh - out - trashy moments in the film , and Lynskey is at the center of all of them . Whether it ’s Hannah blunder out out something inappropriate or her plainly being playfully silly , Lynskey bring a lot of appeal to the part , which elevates the total movie .
Lady of the Manoris a lot of things all at once : it ’s a sidekick funniness between a woman and a ghost , it ’s a erotic love story between two misfits , and , it ’s a story of ego - discovery . The relationships in the movie have free weight and , by the end , the hearing is actually rooting for Hannah and her young lovemaking interest — not to mention her newfound friendly relationship with Wadsworth . It ’s a pleasant film that showcases its talented mould , and while it may not be groundbreaking or advanced , it at least offer amusement .
