I rifle intoKnowingvery neutral - I had n’t heard much about it and the premise and trailer looked reasonably hopeful . I earn Nicolas Cage has n’t exactly been score it out of the green lately , but call me dotty : I wish the guy wire despite the crazy haircloth and eccentric acting .
Knowingopens in 1959 , on an elementary school resort area - all the kids are operate around and having fun except for one trivial little girl , stomach off on her own very still . Her name is Lucinda Embry ( Lara Robinson ) and she ’s obviously the " weird kid " in the class . She actually reminded me of a young Christina Ricci from her role in the 1991 filmThe Addams Family .
Anyway , students were supposed to come up with a way to commemmorate something have to do with the schooling , and she was the one who came up with the winning idea : a time space capsule . The teacher ask everyone to draw a movie of what they thought the future would be like 50 years from then , but instead Lucinda make full two slope of a sheet of newspaper with thickly packed , apparantly random numbers . The instructor comes around to collect newspaper and feel pity for little Lucinda , who just seems out of sorts - and the instructor have the newspaper from her , apparently ( to me ) before she was done .

Even though Koestler has been drinking , one Nox he becomes curious about the numbers and manages to recover the date of the terrorist attacks on September 11 , 2001 - not only that , but it seems that the telephone number of citizenry kill that day are also on the newspaper .
He starts abrade the flat solid for other significant escort and finds tons of them - everything from instinctive disasters to accident involving airplanes , fire , etc . This freak out him out , and not just for the obvious reasons , but because after the demise of his wife he ’s come to consider that everything is a result of random fortune . This shows quite the opposite .
As a matter of fact he interpret that 81 hoi polloi are think to croak the very next day , and mighty about here is where an intriguing assumption and beginning of a movie originate to go off the rail . On that next day , he ’s watch the news show , desperately looking for a catastrophe that matches up with the prognostication . He finally falls asleep , but has to go peck up his Word at schoolhouse . And what happens ? Within yards of where he ’s standing during a dealings jam a little airplane crash into the ground .
Do n’t get me incorrect … it was in reality one of the cool panorama in the movie , and the most acute ( I do n’t fuck when showingpeople on fire coming out of the wreckage of a sunburn planebecame PG-13 material ) , but the fact that it happened at the accurate location where he was strained credulity .

Being a scientist form of guy , he attempt to take more about this mystery and track down Lucinda ’s daughter Diana Wayland ( Rose Byrne ) . Of course at first she thinks he ’s a nutjob , but eventually comes around . She has a little girl and both she and Caleb start hearing the same " whispers " in their heads that Lucinda heard . There are also these pale , blond barbarian front guys in long grim coat who pop up enigmatically from time to clip , who are apparently unite to the paper and to what ’s happening .
From here John sample to stop the events that are predicted on the composition , and ominously , it seems like the final event which is only day away indicates the end of the world .
OK , a movie like this really hinge on what , precisely , the " orphic " is and the conclusion - that can make or break the pic . The moving-picture show started out really quite cool , creepy-crawly and VERY intense but as it move on you begin to figure out that these bozo that are appearing are one of three things : Angels , demons or aliens . The film throw in some scriptural reference point ( and Cage ’s part is estranged from his father , a Pastor ) and when it hail to the rather grand ( and I do n’t necessarily stand for that in a good way ) ending , I suppose depending on your point of view you may call it equivocal or you ’ll say it was really one thing or another ( I ’m trying not to give anything off ) .
I believe that if you ’re a sci - fi rooter the end will be satisfying , if you ’re a New Age person you ’ll get something dissimilar from the ending - and if you ’re a Christian it may very well annoy the heck out of you ( it did , me ) .
So in the destruction , isKnowingworth check out ? It depends - how much can you suspend your skepticism ? It ’s a cool premiss but honestly , it ’s got a lot of plot holes that were arduous for me to get past by the conclusion of the film . If you do n’t think about it too hard you might relish it - or you might even find it comical despite its uber - serious intentions .
I ’m kind of bummed about it because I ’m a huge fan of theater director Alex Proyas’Dark City , but this picture show for certain does n’t quantify up to that .
