Immense danger flies in on silent wing ; the only calendar method of birth control to a scene of megahit - dash demolition is the breath and whine of the lead actress , etc . This is a movie that commands the ear ’s attention as much as it does the optic ’s , and the interplay between the sound effect and composer Steven Price ’s ( The World ’s oddment , Attack the Block ) grandiose grudge - think Kubrick fit Hans Zimmer - elevate everything that Cuarón is doing visually , resulting in a complete feast of sensorial experience .
Gravityis a turning point in filmmaking , sure , but on paper the story it tells is ( slightly ) less noteworthy . The book was co - written by Cuarón and his boy Jonás ; it is , admittedly , a very lean and effective man of thrilling dramatic storytelling , with the writer also managing to inject some enceinte themes and deep emotions into the proceedings . However , when one pulls back and see it , Gravityis also a somewhat standard point - A - to - B survival thriller , which relies on many intimate - at times cliche - sub - genre tropes .
When the chase is on , affair are great ; when we stop for those inevitable moments of intimation - capture ( punning intended ) , the movie is still good , just notgreat . The persona of Matt Kowalski is a bright and suave foil to Stone ’s inexperienced and scare - stricken eccentric ; however , what is plump to distract some mass is the fact that they are on the face of it watch over George Clooney riffing on his own suave - guy persona , down to mid - crisis flirtations with his leave lady . Depending on how you experience about Clooney , the acting choice could gall you ; then again , Kowalski does impart the only veridical levity and relief from a lot of well - staged tenseness , and Clooney does gallows humor somewhat well , so take all that for what it ’s worth .
