Probably the wierdest movie you’ve never heard of, a bizarre combination of Monty Python, Mad Magazine,FreaksandAirplane!.
I have no doubt that 99 % of the sept read this review have probably never heard of a film calledFreaked . It was bourgeon back in 1993 with a surprisingly substantial budget ( $ 12 million ) for this type of cinema , but it never saw the light of Clarence Day beyond one or two moving picture festivals . I can only guess that the author / director managed to get it made without any studio apartment lapse , and once the final mark was screened the execs recoiled in scurvy horror at what their million had given giving birth to and immediately lay to rest it . However , like a zombie it has risen from the numb and was recently bring out on DVD .
Freakedis one of those movies that put you in a dazed and at sea state until you finally settle into the rhythm of the thing . Imagine a Abraham / Zucker pic ( Airplane ! , Kentucky Fried Movie)withoutthe ( cough ) subtlety . 8) It ’s gross and at times cornball , but it has a flavour of rash abandon to it that puts a smile on your face when you think of the governing body it took for these guys to make this movie .
The canonical plot ofFreakedfollows former baby star Ricky Coogan ( played by Alex Winter fromBill and Ted ’s Excellent Adventure ) from Los Angeles to South America for bring his celebrity status to the EES ( Everything Except Shoes ) tummy . EES produces a fertilizer call Zygrot 24 which is getting a pot of negative press because it ’s toxic grant to everyone ( except of course , EES ) .
Ricky and his obnoxious crony Ernie ( Michael Stoyanov ) fell down to " Santa Flan " where they are greeted by a bunch of protestors . The leader , Julie ( played by Megan Ward ) is replete with a little reddened beret and a t - shirt that state " Save the Burrowing Sloth " . Julie is of class , Ricky ’s next erotic love interest .
They channelise off down the route and stumble across Elijah C. Skuggs ( played with hilarity by Randy Quaid ) and his " Freek Land " parking lot . He fob them and ends up turning them into nut for his show , with Ricky turn out particularly fantastic . Soon we meet all the other lusus naturae in a eccentric variation of the erstwhile telly show " Hollywood Squares " , including an uncredited Keanu Reeves as " Dog Boy " .
finally Ricky ’s disaffirmation of his transformation turns to concern for his fellow freaks when he learns of Skuggs ' diabolical program , and things get stranger and wierder as the movie locomote along .

Freakedgoes way over the top to get it ’s laughs , and there were some things that I could have done without . A bit at the beginning with a pencil eraser handwriting sticking out of Ernie ’s zipper seemed stupid , I think they could have been as funny without the abundant amount of stinking language , and a shot with a world and a kangaroo should have been leave on the cutting room flooring . And if you ’re easy gross out this is not the motion picture for you .
Having say that , I have to say this was one of the most imaginatively outre motion picture I ’ve see in quite a while and it did make me smile and laugh . If you ’re a big telecasting and movie geek ( like I am ) you ’ll pick up more tv set and movie character reference than I could reckon . They hit on everything fromGreen AcrestoThe Exorcistand works tounge firmly in cheek while poke fun at a ton of standard movie conventionalism .
