Reed demand von Doom ’s distance station to channel inherited experiments in the midst of some sorting of cosmic swarm that will be passing near to Earth ’s orbit . Reed is a pie in the sky scientist who is supposedly a genius that ca n’t seem to detect practical coating for his discoveries . If we bear it was college ( as in the mirthful ledger version of the characters ) then why are n’t they all around the same age ?
specially ridiculous within this linguistic context is the cast of Jessica Alba as Sue Storm : Look at the persona above … the studio have spentmonthspromoting her as a " issue forth - hither " hottie . When Victor von Doom introduced her as his " Director of Genetic Research " I had to stifle the urge to express mirth out loud !
The screenplay as drop a line is n’t horrendous … OK , with a notable few exceptions , as when prior to leave for the space station Reed remarks " What ’s the worst that could happen ? " My eyes rolled up into my skull with that one . But I digress , as my power point is that although the Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm case were upchuck correctly , the other three were not and it stand out like a sore ovolo . Von Doom , Reed , Sue and Ben should all be within a year or two in age , and the theatre director would have been wise to have cast actors in their previous 30 ’s to early 40 ’s , as he did with Chiklis .
Sure , Julian McMahon is 38 , but produce him a coeval of Ioan Gruffud ( who is 32 ) stimulate McMahon seem young . Jessica Alba is only 24 ( and looks even untested ) … so did Reed and Sue have a serious human relationship when he was 22 and she was 14 ? ? The feeling and content of the opening night scene would have made more sense if the characters were older , wiser and had look like they ’d been around the block a few fourth dimension instead of seeming like they just graduated college two or three years ago .
While Chris Evans was great as the young , impulsive and charming Johnny Storm , Jessica Alba ( who is the same eld as Evans ) is supposed to be the sure-enough , knowing and more levelheaded babe . She should n’t be the same years as her buddy . Chiklis bring a great gravity to the role of Ben Grimm / The Thing and was the one lineament that I cared about at all in this movie . Although the Johnny Storm reference was fun to determine , I did n’t really feel like I should care much about him . McMahon as von Doom was pretty one - dimensional as well .
The big Achille ’s heel inFantastic Fourare Alba and Gruffudd . They were both horribly miscast , but in Gruffudd ’s case the grapheme was poorly compose to boot . In the original risible Reed Richards is brilliant and positive , not shamefaced and unable to turn his find into profitable inventions . Not to mention having him languish for Sue Storm like a puppy firedog … that was truly bothersome .
As far as the Sue Storm character , I think that if they had bind a more mature actress in the role it would have worked as written . It was just a case of the wrong person delivering the right dialog .

Another MAJOR issue I had with this photographic film is that I utterly and entirely did NOT buy the Reed / Sue Latinian language . Not even for a micro - minute . It was about on equation with the Anakin / Padme relationship fromStar Wars . I did n’t see a inkling of a cause for why she would be pull in to him . Nothing , nada , zip .
As far as the legal action sequence and special impression , they were OK , but nothing that left you dropping your jaw in amazement . Actually during the final battle I felt kind of detached from the whole affair . It ’s amazing how a picture show can show things blowing up , cars flying through the air and such with the whole thing miss any emotional " punch " . Of course what can you expect when the conductor ’s last two motion-picture show wereTaxiandBarbershop , both comedies and one a very poor one .
