Drive Angry
Screen Rant ’s Vic Holtreman reviewsDrive Angry 3D
Yes , I realize that Nicolas Cage is the ace of theDrive Angrymovie - but I thought you might favor a picture of Amber Heard to map the flick . And lets get this out of the way : She does n’t get au naturel in the movie . Why would I point that out you demand ? BecauseDrive Angryisthatkind of movie .
Nicolas Cage is on a missionary work - and he escapes from Hell itself ( in an opening chronological sequence that await more television biz than anything else ) to attain it . Director Patrick Lussier wastes no time whatsoever introduce us to just what sort of film this is , with a prospect in which Cage ( play a boyfriend name Milton ) take down three rough - hewn rednecks without much bother at all . By the clip we ’re about five minutes into the moving picture we know it ’s give-up the ghost to be filled with cheesy ( in a good room ) one - liners , more f - bombs than you could count , and stacks oxygen ' violence and gore . It train about another five minutes before we get to the sex and nudeness ( not kvetch , just saying).Drive Angryisn’t rat R - it’sRATEDR .
We are presently enter to Piper ( played by the gorgeousAmber Heard ) . She ’s a southern , hot , foul - mouthed yet compassionate gallon ( who wants to be married ) who come about to be engage to a guy who have her to waffle ( a lot ) when asked whether " he ’s a good man " ( within about 60 mo of the interrogation being asked she and the audience get the solution ) . Piper and Milton are thrown together when he come to her saving and because he is in need of the ' 69 Charger she drives . He ’s in a hurry to take hold of up with a craze loss leader ( played byBilly Burke , who also played Bella ’s pa in theTwilightfilms ) before the next full moon for reasons that are made clear before long enough .
Milton is gentlemanly enough with Piper and he seems to be more than a bit behind the times ( he refers to a cellular phone telephone as a " portable phone " ) . However he is not someone to frustrate and does not hesitate to kill to defend himself . He actually does so in a scene that I wo n’t frustrate , but is about as untamed a shootout , uh , position as I ’ve ever seen in a photographic film .
Tracking him we haveWilliam Fitchneras " The Accountant , " and he is without a dubiousness the good matter in this motion-picture show . Fitchner does a mess of supporting role work , and you might best remember him as the crime syndicate - connected bank manager in the opening scenes ofThe Dark Knight . The mankind is obviously having such a great time in this movie , but he manages to contain it just enough to where you find like you ’re deal an inside joke with him . He ’s funny , teetotal and some of the subtle expression that travel across his face put a smile on mine just think about it . If there ’s one thing that might tempt me to see this motion picture again , it ’s his character and performance .
Amber Heard holds her own throughout the film as the tough - as - nails redneck chick - I was actually pretty surprised . Then again , it could be the moving picture that ring her that work her performance seem good than it is … nah , she actually did OK . However , when incredible actor David Morse seem as Webster , Milton ’s onetime booster , the comparison is jarring . Within seconds ( literally ) Morse whole possess the fit in which he appears with Cage and Heard and it just make the difference in execution quite glaring .
Tom Atkins also has a minor role in the film , and he chews up the scenery like it ’s the last , good film he ’ll ever do - really over the top - but again , it ’s the form of functioning that make you smile . And while Billy Burke is my preferent thing about theTwilightmovies , here , while he hand over a appropriately evil bad hombre , he seems one - dimensional to me - although I conjecture it ’s a convulsion for a moving picture of this type .
And then we come to Nicolas Cage . I know there ’s a fortune of hate for the guy out there ( which candidly , I just do n’t get ) , but surprisingly in a movie like this - where you ’d expect him to go " full batting cage " - he actually plays it low paint . I ’d have to say this was one of the mildest demo of his performance style that I ’ve figure - less over - the - top than his carrying out inThe Sorcerer ’s Apprentice- and that was actually quite a surprise . In fact , I might even say I missed encounter his hallmark performance … particularly in a cinema where you ’d bear it big metre . That ’s not to say he does n’t encounter it bum : in the curtain raising scene he let out a line of dialogue that was so cliche ( on role ) that it had me laugh out loud .
Nicolas Cage stars in Drive Angry, an action movie that follows Cage as John Milton, a tortured soul who escapes from hell with the gun of Satan to save his granddaughter from a cult leader who murdered his daughter. Now on a road-trip from hell (literally,) Milton, joined by a waitress he saves from an abusive relationship, will leave destruction in their wake to face off against cultists and the agents of hell.
As to the 3-D - there were some interesting uses of it , from the more subtle to the gimmicky overt with bullets and other things flying out of the screen . From me , director Lussier gets heavy peak for dissipate the movie using 3D cameras . I ’ve amaze so used to risky , post - production 3D that I spend about the first 15 mo watching a shooting in 3D movie looking for the telling signs of post 3D - until my mind lastly settles down and swallow this superior version .
While it hale for just a short fleck about 3/4 of the agency through , the picture comes back for a openhanded finish and has no illusions about what sort of pic it is : A difficult - R , violent , raunchy , denotative roller coaster drive - and at that it reasonably much succeeds . If you ’re well injure by language , sex and nudeness in films , this one is NOT for you . But if you’re able to appreciate a schlocky action - pack B - movie then this might be up your skittle alley . But you ’ve been warned , do n’t come back here tell me how offended you were by this movie.8 )
