Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story
Except for one miscast role and an over the top ending, Dodgeball is a crude but extremely funny satire of the fitness industry.
If you ’re a guy , and you still have any touch of a teen in you , you ’re in all likelihood blend in to like this movie . I ’ve stated in the past that there is a very o.k. line when it comes to moving-picture show between " stunned funny " and just plainly stupid . With just a brace of elision , whereDodgeballveers into just manifestly stupid , it ’s averyfunny film .
The basic premise is minor , friendly , rundown gym vs. uber - yuppie ( can I still use that full term ? ) , glitzy mega - gymnasium across the street . The owner of " Globo - Gym " ( White Goodman , played by Ben Stiller ) wants to bribe " Average Joe ’s " across the street from it ’s owner ( Peter LeFleur , played by Vince Vaughn ) in ordering to wrick it into a parking lot . These guys have been rivals for a retentive time and it comes to a head in the events that succeed . I wo n’t bore you with further details except to say that a professional dodgeball tournament is the answer to LeFleur and his nerd buddies problem .
The cast of characters in this film is hysteric with two elision : Vaughn , who was terribly miscast and just comes across as 2-dimensional instead of a nice guy , and the fibre play by Joel Moore ( Owen ) who was just evidently stupefied and irritating . Ben Stiller in particular really shine as the X - fat - self - made - valet ( except for that inheritance he received from dad ) .
Is the humor crude ? Of of course , but some of it is quite witty in it ’s satire of the fitness industry . Overall I was laugh forever throughout the movie . I do n’t want to give away the gag , so you ’ll have to take my word for it .
There were a few cameo that actually work , including David Hasselhoff , Bill Shatner , and others .
Beyond the miscasting of Vaughn and the ill write Owen grapheme , my only other charge is that the film seemed to get a bit lose at the ending and wanted to top itself with a few items that really left me dusty . One was consummate , another was unneeded , and the third you ’ll miss if you blink , but I did n’t wish the message it sent .
Overall though , I recommend it as a good direction to expend 90 minutes with a comedy that ’s actuallyfunny .
