Hercule Poirot is back with another murder mystery to work . After several delay , due in part to the spheric pandemic and the sexual abuse allegations against Armie Hammer ( whose scenes were not reshot),Death on the Nileis finally being released in theaters . Directed by Kenneth Branagh from a screenplay by Michael Green , Death on the Nile , which is based on the novel by Agatha Christie , is an entertaining comfort movie that play better than anticipated .
Death on the Nileopens with Hercule Poirot ’s ( Branagh , pulling three-fold obligation as doer and director ) time as a soldier in World War I before chute to 1937 London . Death on the Nileis a satisfying film overall , one that is get up by its intriguing mystery and the way in which it gives each character a backstory , leave the audience suspicious of every single one of them at some point in time throughout ( at least for those unfamiliar with Christie ’s novel and the identity of the cause of death ) . The production design is detailed , the costume fabulous , and the fine introduction all lend to the luxurious setting , believably bestow its haughty fictional character to the forefront . The cinematography by Haris Zambarloukos is great and there is one finical shot , of the S.S.Karnakon the body of water at Nox , its light mull over on the Nile , that is visually beautiful . The ensemble cast make the most of their persona , each offering something that differentiates one from the other , but it ’s Bateman as Bouc , Sophie Okonedo as Salome Otterbourne , a jazz singer and Rosalie ’s aunt , and Mackey as Jacqueline who are standouts , offering a bit more layers to their character without overplaying in their part . It ’s Branagh ’s performance , however , that ultimately holds it all together , and his directorial obligation do n’t get sideline simply because he ’s in the leading role . The film itself is enjoyable for the length of its runtime , even though one might not ascertain they ’ll remember too much of what happened short after .
