Overall, this movie is enjoyable, but it suffers from mediocre musical numbers. Some parts of the plot are so tragic and morbid that I’m hesitant to recommend this movie for young children, despite its PG rating.

Sometimes it ’s heavy to know what to expect from Tim Burton . On the plus side , the cat really knows how to tell apart a level , and with only a few exception , you’re able to tell that each of his pic is really a travail of sexual love . On the minus side , he ’s a little too unearthly and morbid to fit into the established Hollyweird mold . The latest example of that isCorpse Bride .

The first matter I found puzzling about this movie is the fact that it has a PG military rank . It has been a long clip since I was a kid , but it seems to me that most children would have a hard time " getting " Tim Burton ’s directing and storytelling style . I have enjoyed most of his picture , especiallyEd Wood , but it ’s hard to see how any of his movies ( except perhapsThe Nightmare Before Christmas ) could be considered appropriate for minor . Such is the case withCorpse Bride . Overall , it has elements of charm and humor , but some parts of the story are just so morbid , and sometimes even sad , that I ’m hesitant to recommend this pic for immature children .

The story go out fairly simple . Victor Van Dort ( vocalize by Johnny Depp ) is from an ostensibly wealthy kinfolk , and he is basically being forced to marry Victoria Everglot ( voiced by Emily Watson ) , who is from another ostensibly affluent family . As it turns out , both families are intimately destitute , and each assumes that they are marrying into money , when in world they ’re both wrong . At first , neither Victor nor Victoria require any part of the arranged wedding , even though they ’re both going along with it for their families ' sake . superior , in particular , is a nervous shipwreck . He does such a terrible job at the wedding party rehearsal that everyone get upset at him , so he runs into the woods to be alone . He has the ring with him , so he starts practicing his marriage vow on stick and subdivision . The only job is , one of the branch turns out to be the dead manus of a remains named Emily ( vocalize by Helena Bonham Carter ) . As soon as Victor puts the ring on her finger’s breadth and says the union vow , Emily descend to life , still wearing her wedding garb , and agrees to be his wife .

The next thing Victor know , he ’s down in the underworld with his young Bridget , having a wedding response . uncalled-for to say , he ’s a little freak out out by the whole situation , so he quickly escapes the underworld and psyche back to Victoria ’s house to explain the situation to her . It does n’t take long for Victor and Victoria to agnise that they really have feelings for each other , but there are complications . ( Are n’t there always ? ) The biggest ramification is that Emily is quickly adjusting to marital life . She wastes no sentence find Victor and drag him back down to the underworld in a scene of jealous furor . After a while , though , it becomes obvious that Victor is n’t glad in that position , and she does n’t take it well at all . As Victor sees how Emily is oppose to his rejection , he take pity on her and even commence to have feelings for her . Victor is really in a pickle now . He ’s married to one woman who is dead , engaged to another woman who is active , and has tone for both . As the dad onEverybody Loves Raymondwould say , " Now you got two trouble ! "

Since this is a Tim Burton motion picture , you could rest insure that the story is not wrapped up in a nice , neat little bow that has everyone living happily ever after . I ’m not in the habit of giving away endings or crucial game points , but I will say that I liked how this flick ended . I thought it was very emotionally touching and appropriate for the story . Now for what I did n’t wish … First and foremost , I did n’t wish the musical numbers . They were all mediocre , every last one of them . The most enjoyable one was probably the skeleton in the underworld during Emily and Victor ’s nuptials response , but even it was n’t anything spectacular . This motion-picture show solicit quite a few comparability toThe Nightmare Before Christmas , and even that movie did n’t have very impressive musical Book of Numbers , the only elision being " What ’s This . " Do n’t get me haywire ; Burton does a great job of determine moods and state story , but he should n’t be doing musicals . Likewise , Danny Elfman is a very prolific and talented composer of picture show scores and television receiver composition song , but his musical numbers leave much to be desire . With the exception of " Weird Science " and " Dead Man ’s Party , " I did n’t even care much for his Oingo Boingo songs . Yes , I know , that ’s gentle for me to say since I get to be the Monday - dayspring signal caller , but he gets paid BIG one dollar bill to write that stuff and I do n’t , so I consider he ought to write superior music whenever he ’s hired to write something . Fair enough ? All I ’m say is that I would have enjoyed this pic more if it had n’t been a musical . ( Do n’t assure Vic , but I ’m in reality agreeing with Richard Roeper about the musical numbers inCorpse Bridebeing mediocre . )

Overall , Corpse Brideis gratifying , but I would n’t recommend that parents take their vernal child to see it . At best , they wo n’t get the humor or the storyline . At worst , they ’ll be scared by some of the pathological character and plot points . I ’ve already clear up how I feel about the musical telephone number , so the only other thing to note is that the character of the figure of speech vivification is excellent . ( Notice I did n’t say claymation … are n’t you proud of me ? ) Bottom line , if you ’re a devotee of Tim Burton , or you could at least tolerate his style and witticism , you should enjoy this flick . He ’s not without his flaw , but the cat knows how to recite a floor .
