Clerks II can only possibly be enjoyed by hardcore fans of the original. It was like digging through a huge pile of cow dung to get to a very small pearl at the bottom.
Since I do n’t generally write objective reviews , here ’s what you need to know before you say this :
1 . When the original Clerks first came out , I kind of enjoyed it in a look - at - bugs - in - a - jounce form of way .
2 . I was arouse in New Jersey .
3 . I am more than 10 years previous than the master quality in the movie .
stimulate all that ? Good . For the most part , clerk IIwas excruciatingly sickening . I almost get up and walked out more than once , but made myself stay seated because first , I ca n’t write a revue of a motion-picture show I have n’t seen all the way through , and also due to morbid curiosity of where it would cease up .
My rationale for the evaluation is that I would have give it a 1/2 , but the last 10 minutes bump it up half a point . I would n’t have move lower than a half lead because ( if you do n’t beware or can get past the immense crassness of this motion picture ) , it did make me chuckle a couple of times .
The moving-picture show opens in black and ashen , with Dante ( Brian O’Halloran , repeat his part , as do all the actors in the film ) arriving at the Quick Mart ( or whatever it was forebode , opening the security room access and finding it entirely aflame . His best friend Randal ( or as I care to call him : Diarrhea Mouth ) shows up and walk right past the firefighters and into the charred storage , completely oblivious to the going on . Cut to " Mooby ’s " the film ’s translation of every fast food joint out there . Mooby ’s was actually the source of quite a few chuckles ( for me , anyway ) with the little signs and mottos in the ground ( Try Mooby ’s Cow PIE ! )
Anyway our two hardy losers , er , I signify " heroes " have shifted from the Quick Mart to Mooby ’s as far as their regular jobs are occupy . Yeah , ok , I get it … that ’s the POINT of the movie , but man … early 30 ’s and working at a loyal food joint ? NOT as a manager ?
All right , myopic plot of land sum-up : our main guy finally land an uber - infant with great feeling and money . The trouble is that she ’s got about 10 years on him and is totally see . They ’re going to dump Jersey , head to Florida where he will be beholding to his in - law in respect to a new menage and a job . Another job is that there is an obvious attraction between him and the manager of Mooby ’s , longtime ally and simmering - beneath - the - surface romantic interest Becky ( meet by Rosario Dawson ) . And of course , ripe sidekick does n’t want him to leave .
The two icon of shop assistant return as well after 6 months of rehab and apparently having ground Jesus . Although I always enjoy Kevin Smith in his role as the understood one , the other guy is lead off to also seem too old to be hanging out in front of a fast intellectual nourishment joint sell drugs . Again , yeah , I know " these guys never grew up . "
So the main questions are will Dante depart for Florida and get married , finally mystify the fresh start he ’s wanted his whole life ( albeit with some major strings attach ) , or will he continue in Joisey and solidify his relationship with Becky ?
Now that does n’t make for too bad of a journey , the problem is what we have to endure along the way . The character of Randall could not be more idiotic , think and despicable . He ’s just an immature dirtbag to the gist , who rationalizes it with a view that his best friend exist to be his counterbalance . The sheer amount of rank and file negotiation you will have to brave if you show up for this pic would curdle Milk River . It ’s not just the sempiternal profanity , but the crappy attitudes , the sick intimate stuff that is discussed in excruciating item , and the portrayal of a young geeky Christian guy as a entire and over idiot who of course needs to have his centre opened by Randall , the great and wise to .
I learn about Joel Siegel allow a screening of Clerks II due to an explicit conversation centered on human / donkey relation and I have got to tell you , I do n’t find fault the guy . I line up it mirthful how Smith come back and railed against Seigel ’s use of goods and services of " cutesy " headlines when endorsing films , which yes , is a morsel corny … but geez , how about a midway land ?
The picture gets progressively harder to take , and the gross factor peaks mightily before the last 10 minutes or so that somewhat bring the telephone dial ever so slimly to the " redeeming " side . I liked how the close showed a respectable compromise between being the Jersey shirker that they were , stay put , and actually take on some obligation .
However , as I state above , the overall effect is like digging through a immense pile of moo-cow muck in guild to ultimately find a very small pearl . peradventure I ’ve just outgrow this stuff , after all one of my favorite movies a foresightful time ago wasAnimal House , and I question what I ’d think of it if I saw it again today . The thing that hit me was that all around me the 20 - something crowd were laughing their heads off throughout the movie , so maybe I just do n’t bed what I ’m talking about .
Releasing over a decade after the original cult classic, Clerks II centers on Dante and Randal, who venture out to find a new job after their Quick Stop store catches on fire. They eventually settle on a Mooby’s fast food restaurant. Clerks II is the sixth film in Kevin Smith’s Askewniverse.
Either that or I was in an audience comprised exclusively of hard heart and soul Kevin Smith / Clerksfans . If you do n’t fall into either of those categories , I would highly paint a picture that you giveClerks IIa evanesce .
Oh , and if it ’s a case of " I just do n’t get it . " , I ’ll tell you what : I do n’t WANT to get it , m’kay ?
