Cat Personexplores the grammatical gender moral force of dating — the thing men and women might say or do when they first start out date . There are a lot of thing that go unsaid , or that Margot is diffident about because she does n’t really know Robert all that well . She keeps think the bad - typesetter’s case scenario in every situation . Margot lie to keep up appearance , or to not make Robert sense bad . Her assurance gives him confidence , but it ’s all misplaced somehow , and their communicating is in the first place base on premiss and perceptions , their own insecurity , or pre - condition gender function that paint a picture how one should act as when dating . The magic trick of date is also sprinkle throughout . Margot think Robert is “ sort of ” a gracious guy , at least before he coil and anticipate her a whore after she breaks thing off ( something she could n’t bring herself to do ) .
Roupenian ’s short account cleverly set out all of these dynamic — be it in Son , actions , or Margot ’s sentiment — whereas the movie swerve off into thriller / horror territory and take creative liberty that do n’t in particular suit the overarching narrative . The final turn is unnecessary and does n’t really sum anything to the movie ’s story .
