While Criston Cole was already gamey on my leaning ofHouse of the Dragoncharacters I ca n’t put up , his role in Blood & Cheese has seal off his smirch as my # 1 least best-loved character . To be comely , Criston Cole began the show as a comparatively likable and perhaps even rootable character . Fabien Frankel ’s interpersonal chemistry with Milly Alcock as young Rhaenyra Targaryen was palpable , and it almost seemed as if they were about to embark on a Daenerys and Daario Naharis - like romance . However , this all change duringRhaenyra and Laenor ’s wedding inHouse of the Dragonseason 1 , whereCriston ’s honest color came to light as he defile the hall with Joffrey Lonmouth ’s blood .
When Rhaenyra chose to embrace her title to the Iron toilet and duty to the land ( andAegon the Conqueror ’s dreaming ) rather than spend her days sell oranges in Essos with Criston , her pledged guardian became one of the least redeemableGame of Thronescharacters yet . From killing innocents to consecrate his entire life story to hypocrisy , petty retaliation against Rhaenyra , and disparaging her children , Criston Cole ’s 16 - year festering rancor made him brutally and utterly pathetic . gratuitous to say , House of the Dragoncast memberFabien Frankel gives an unbelievable and compelling operation as Criston , but I ca n’t help dislike his character even more than I thought potential after Blood & Cheese .
Criston Cole’s Role In Blood & Cheese Makes Him Even Less Likable
Criston was bedding the Queen instead of performing his sworn duty
Criston often discusses the grandness of prioritize duty , but in the Greens ’ most dread moment yet , the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard is having sex with the Queen Mother rather than protecting the heir to the Iron Throne . While there ’s the excuse to be made that Criston may not have been capable to interceptBlood & Cheese killing Jaehaerysregardless of whether he was in Alicent ’s chamber or not , I still consider he could have done at least something more fighting had he been on guard . There was no sense of duty at that moment , and now he ’ll have to resolve where he was when King Aegon ’s heir was decollate .

Criston Is The Most Hatable Character In House Of The Dragon - And It’ll Keep Getting Worse
Criston Cole’s actions will continue to ruin his reputation in House of the Dragon
Game of Thronesgraced ( or curst ) audience with some of the greatest and often simultaneously most wretched villains on idiot box , most notably Joffrey Baratheon , Ramsay Snow , and Cersei Lannister . House of the Dragon , on the other handwriting , is unequaled in that themajority of its major characters flow more into an anti - hero sensibility than full - on villain dominion . Daemon , Aemond , Aegon II , and Otto perform plenty of unspeakable acts , but they ’re also more complex in the understanding that the show aims at their role . AsHouse of the Dragoncontinues , however , the same ca n’t be said for Ser Criston Cole .
Having study George R.R. Martin’sFire & Bloodbook , I ’m already cognizant of how Criston ’s story will generally play out , and there are plenty of forthcoming moments that will do even more damage to his reputation .
Rather than scaling back his loathable persona to gain more sympathy , Criston Cole arguably becomes more and more bad throughoutHouse of the Dragon ’s state of war . Having read George R.R. Martin’sFire & Bloodbook , I ’m already cognisant of how Criston ’s narration will generally play out , and there are plenty of forthcoming moments that will do even more damage to his report . Even more so after the change the show has made to his story , such as his intimate affair with Alicent , I ’m certain thatCriston Cole’sHouse of the Dragonendingwill prove satisfying to many .
