Screen Rant ’s Paul Young reviewsArmored
Every once in a while a motion-picture show come out of nowhere that totally catches me by surprisal . Black Dog , Hard RainandDeep Risingare still three of my preferred mid - budget action pic that got very little advertising or deference but manage to be very enjoyable in the field of operations . All three also made into my DVD depository library - and nowArmoredwill fall in them on my ledge .
There are some minor pamperer in the undermentioned review .
Nimrod Antal , the guy directingPredators , has done a very good line of work of makingArmoredfun and interesting without botch it way over - the - top . From what I can tell , this is author James Simpson ’s first time with playpen to grow book , and he has done a expectant job of putting together a semi - plausible plot of land with interesting eccentric . I never rightfully felt an emotional attachment to any of the characters but honestly , I do n’t need that to enjoy every picture show I watch .
That ’s not to say the actors in the cinema did n’t do a swell job of bringing their role to living . Columbus Short ( Stomp the Yard ) plays Ty Hackett , an ex - soldier work as a security safety on an armored motortruck . Ty is also upgrade his unseasoned pal , Jimmy ( Andre Kinney ) after both of their parents pass away in the same year . The cause of their decease is never really accost but the upshot is well-fixed to see . The bank is hassling Ty for payments that is he struggle to make ; Jimmy is lack schoolhouse and Social Services is threatening to split the brothers up and put Jimmy in foster care .
Ty is seem for special teddy at work but there just are n’t any to be had . That ’s when his friend , co - worker , partner and godfather Mike Cochrone ( Matt Dillon ) comes to him with this program to rob their own trucks . He and a handful of the guards - Quinn ( Jean Reno ) , Baines ( Laurence Fishburne ) , Palmer ( Amaury Nolasco ) and Dobbs ( Skeet Ulrich ) , have decided to revive an armored hand truck rip-off from 1988 where as Cochrone puts it,“There are no forged guys . ”
They will pick up $ 42 million dollars in two truck , go hoard it somewhere , report that they have been robbed , then come back and collect their bounty – wanton peasy , Citrus limon squeezy . Well the first part of the plan goes off well , and they end up with the money and deal to stash one-half and that ’s when the manure rack up the whirling blade .
They discover a homeless man sleeping in the abandon warehouse where they are hiding and Baines , who is the induction - happy / least - impudent one of the bunch , hauls off and flash the bozo . Ty , who is already having doubts about the whole romp , does n’t want pedigree on his helping hand and try out to help the dispossessed homo who is n’t quite dead . That comes to an disconnected death via Cochrone ’s shooting iron and Ty runs for the refuge of the motortruck with the others in following . He tries to radio for help but the sign is weak , so he examine to repel aside .
What ensues is a very unique take on the required motorcar following and could quite peradventure be the best railcar pursuit this year . Now , it is n’t as full as good as the railroad car trail inRonin , Bourne IdentityorTransporter , but this is the first prison term I can remember seeing two armored trucks chasing each other .
After pulling a NASCAR - type simulated military operation ( read : driving in a circle ) , they end up back where they started and Ty is trapped in the motortruck with on the face of it no way out . He try out the siren which is soon disabled but not before catching the attention of Officer Eckehart ( Milo Ventimiglia ) . One affair direct to another and Eckehart shortly ends up pullulate in the intestine and lying in the back of the hand truck with Ty ( this was in reality shown in the trailer , so I do n’t think you may call it a tangible spoiler ) . From there , things retain to break down within the group as tensions get up until the chronicle hand its action packed climax .
Bottom short letter , if you are in the grocery for a enjoyable action moving-picture show where you may just enjoy the picture without a fate of nitpicking or over - thinking , then you could do worse theArmored .
