300

Pretty close to being the ultimate “guy movie.”

I ’ve waited a farseeing clip to see300 , the movie exalt by Frank Miller ’s graphic novel about the Spartans . If nothing else , base on the trailers I was expecting a movie that at least visually , would blow me away . My only concern going in was that I had heard that there were WAY too many slow - apparent motion scenes … in fact that every undivided battle sequence was in dumb - mo . On the plus side , if ever there seemed to be a film that would connect directly into the testosterone center of the male brain this looked like it was going to be it .

For the most part , it delivers big meter .

300tells the ( no doubt highly romanticise ) write up of the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C. , where King Leonidas of Sparta made a stand against the self - proclaimed god - Billie Jean Moffitt King of Persia and his massive US Army . Leonidas had 300 Spartan warrior and a few hundred other Greek conscripts as back up to go up against an army aim to be one million hands secure .

Via narration the motion-picture show afford with a short history lesson about Sparta and it ’s the great unwashed , and you immediately get a sense of who they are . There are no wimps or physically substandard multitude in this civilization … only the strong are allowed to live . Both the men and women are forceful , lofty people , with some male children destined to become ultimate warriors who begin training as shortly as they can walk .

We see Leonidas ( played with cracking gusto by Gerard Butler ) as a seven year old in armed combat education where his instructor pulls no punches , and then at about 10 or 12 years old where he undergoes the ritual of passage in the wild . He will either repay as a man or he will not return at all . hack to him at 40 and as king , where he and his beautiful wife Queen Gorgo ( played by Lena Headey ) obviously rule together . A messenger from the king of Persia comes to tell Leonidas he must kneel before King Xerxes ( bet by the deucedly tall Rodrigo Santoro ) and state to Persian principle . Leonidas gives a typical Spartan response when he decline … withfeeling .

certainly , there is some political maneuvering going on as part of the story back in Sparta , where the Queen tries to convince the council to commit the residual of the Spartan USA to reward the 300 , and there are a couple of erotic nude scenery to keep the male consultation happy ( that Oracle … woah ) . And the reasonableness for the politics is that King Leonidas run against the wishes of the council and the creepy , lecherous and leperous high priest in deciding to attack the Persian ground forces . He have 300 men to face King Xerxes at Thermopylae , where a minute canyon will allow him to hold off the legion of encroacher with relatively few men . And this , my friends is why you go see this pic .

300 movie reviews

But theBATTLEis what300is all about .

The conflict scenes in this film are incredible … the word " glorious " come to head . Yes , there is a muckle of slow motion but it process to accentuate the conflict . It ’s mesmerizing to watch this humble band of men go against everything Xerxes throws at them . No matter what , they do n’t back down . They take on regular foot soldiers , archers , creepy " immortals " who are Xerxes elect fighting force , a wierd giant mutant guy who plain does n’t understand that getting stabbed hurt and is supposed to stop you , and on up from there . These men led by King Leonidas are the very definition of " Never Say Die . "

The only thing that kept this movie from getting a NC-17 rating for violence is the fact that it ’s shot in sepia tones and the line that seem onscreen look black ( as it did inLord of the Rings ) . And there is a LOT of blood .

Gerard Butler and the wall of bodies in 300.

Loosely based on Frank Miller’s comic series of the same name, Zack Snyder’s 300 tells the legend of the historical battle of Thermopylae. It follows King Leonidas of Sparta (Gerard Butler) as he leads a small force of 300 Spartans against the amassed Persian army of 300,000. Meanwhile, his wife Queen Gorgo (Lena Headey) remains in Sparta to negotiate reinforcements against political resistance.

Now I ’m not a handsome critic of the MPAA , but there are some thing they settle that are just plain pathetic as far as I ’m concerned . you’re able to have gore galore in a movie , but as long as the blood isn’tredthey’ll bring down it some slack . Wierd , but I digress .

Aside from the amazing battles , I savour the performances of the leads . Butler was intense and feral when postulate , yet still had a quiet side as Leonidas . David Wenham ( who act as Faramir inLord of the Rings ) does a sombre job as Leonidas friend and the narrator , and Lena Headey as Leonidas ' queen was both beautiful and firm onscreen , plus with an outfit or two that rival the famous Princess Leia metal " hard worker two-piece . " :-)

I ’ve also never see such a vast collection of six - pack Av outside of a bodybuilder competition . I guess that Gold ’s Gym and 24 Hour Fitness are go to see spike in young membership numeral for the next couple of weeks as this movie makes one thousand thousand of coach potato men feel physically unimportant as they stuff Zea mays everta in their boldness .

Spartans take defensive positioning in Zach Snyder’s 300.

On the minus side , I think the film give out on a number too long and set off to function out of steam towards the end . The political face of the movie that takes place back in Sparta was not compelling when compared to what was going on at the battleground . Much like watching anAmerican Idolperformance where a big destination can make you bury the mediocre beginning and center , I had to remember how great the first 80 % of300was and not evaluate it only on how it matte up towards the end .

Overall , a great ride that will get you discharge up if you ’re a guy , and although it ’s very blinking I suppose there is lots of oculus confect for the ladies . :-)

generally ground on Frank Miller ’s funny serial publication of the same name , Zack Snyder ’s 300 enjoin the legend of the historical battle of Thermopylae .
