While the series started potent , it unraveled quickly and became the lowest - rated Marvel serial , especially its closing curtain . Secret Invasionsuffered from grim viewership , only reaching 994,000 viewers within its first five days . Despite this , the serial publication was extremely prognosticate by amusing book referee due to its source material , but many retrieve it an underwhelming passing that wasted one of Marvel ’s most iconic storylines forthe MCU timeline .
While the show was dissatisfactory , it did have some shameful moments . Marvel is n’t known for killing many of its characters , butSecret Invasionincluded the deaths of two major case ; Ben Mendelsohn ’s Talos , andCobie Smulders ' Maria Hill . Both of these characters appeared in multiple MCU movies , but go in the Disney+ series , leaving enough incognizant they ’d even been down off as a solvent . These endings did n’t sit correctly with many viewers , and they still do n’t one year later .
Now that one year has pass since the release of the MCU ’s lowest - rat serial , I can say that I ’m still not over how much it let down me .
Maria Hill’s And Talos' deaths in Secret Invasion Were Wasted
Maria Hill first appeared inThe Avengersas the Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Nick Fury ’s good manus . Smulders reprised the role several times throughout the MCU , includingAvengers : Age of Ultron , Captain America : The Winter Soldier , andSpider - valet de chambre : Far From Home . She was a worthful asset to the Avengers , and to Fury as one of his most firm agents . Talos debuted inCaptain Marvelas a superior general of the Skrull Council who showed the the true about the Kree to Carol Danvers . He also appeared in a post - credits scene inFar From Homebefore return inSecret Invasion .
During the series , both persona are killed byGravik , the villainous Skrulldetermined to turn the Earth into the Skrull ’s new base . Neither character receive epic dying , as both were unceremoniously killed in battle . They were also used as emotional motivation , with Hill ’s dying fall out early to give Nick Fury more to fight for . likewise , Talos ' decease was used as a way to inspire G’iah to fight Gravik in a CGI - take confrontation . While Hill and Talos were n’t central characters in the MCU , they were still impactful paladin who deserved more aid for their conclusion .
Secret Invasion’s Events Don’t Seem Important To The MCU
Another inauspicious facet of Hill ’s and Talos ' expiry is that the event ofSecret Invasionmay not be significant to the MCU.The Marvels , which included Nick Fury and Skrulls , did n’t mention anything that happened inSecret Invasiononce , and the events seemingly had no impact on Fury- or at least , not one that has been actively explored . InThe Marvels , a grouping of Skrulls are sent to New Asgard on Earth as a potential new base , with no mention of the President of the United States ’s resolve of war against their mintage .
Secret Invasionalso did n’t get high-pitched viewership numbers for an MCU series , so many have n’t seen Hill and Talos ' death , and may not even be cognizant they ’re now dead in the franchise . afford the overarching result ofSecret Invasionhaven’t yet been cite , there ’s a very real probability these deaths will never be direct again , since they do n’t seem to factor into the MCU ’s current write up . As such , it ’s unlikely the issues with these death will get a belated adjustment or wages anytime in the near future .
