1408
1408proves that it’s still possible to make a very scary and creepy movie that is not populated by teenage characters or victims being mutilated.
I infer it ’s weird to utilise the word " refreshing " when utter about a horror movie , but that ’s what1408is when compared to late trends in the humankind of horror picture . With the likes of theSawseries , Hostelmovies and the upcomingCaptivity , which all reckon on scenes of excruciating personal overrefinement to horrify the interview , I really enjoyed see an " old schoolhouse " horror movie that was implausibly in force .
It becomes plain quite quickly that Enslin is leading a rather empty life and has had some calamity in his past that has lead him as somewhat of an empty carapace - tire and going through the motions of endure . He ’s finishing up his research for the next book when he comes across a postcard sent to him anonymously informing him of room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel in New York City . It ’s phrased but and scheme him enough to do some research on it , and that ’s when things get interesting .
It turn out that in room 1408 there have been stacks of deaths over the old age , and the hotel ’s cosmopolitan handler ( run by the ever - excellent Samuel L. Jackson ) dead refuses to allow anyone to stay in the room . Enslin fall back to legal activeness to get in the room and even then the manager tries his best to talk him out of it , but to no avail .
The last warning to Enslin is that no one has go more than onehourin the room , nevermind an full night .
The cocky and very unbelieving Enslin gets to the room and find nothing singular about it , at least for the first 5 minutes or so , but as you could guess affair soon exchange . A lot .
The film hinge on the performance of the histrion playing author Mike Enslin , and fortuitously the amazing John Cusack was chosen for the role . For the bulk of the film it ’s a one - humans show , with a tapeline fipple flute used as a equipment to allow Cusack to tattle to himself without sound like he ’s going demented . I ’ve always enjoyed Cusack on - screen and this motion-picture show was no exclusion . He has an everyman quality that is whole believable and his sensory faculty of quiet desperation really comes across early in the film , as does his veneration and despair ( I wo n’t get into details as to not spoil it for you ) midway through the film and through to the death .
There was a bit of graphic gore in the picture show , but only in still calamitous and white photos . What really vex to the viewer is the sense of dread and fear of what will happen next . Very nicely done and very effective .
I did n’t give it a mellow rating because for a while there I thought it did slow down a bit too much , plus while not enough to deflower the flick by a longshot , the ending leave me with some question regarding one of the role , and that one character ’s situation is the one that sticks with you after you leave the theater . It ’s also the primary cause I ’d wish to interpret the floor the flick was based on to see if there ’s any clarification there .
In the destruction a very efficacious creepy-crawly movie , complete for appointment night as it will no doubt have your girl / wife clinging to your arm and it ’s not gore - filled enough to sour her off from the moving-picture show .
John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson star in this 2007 film adaptation of Stephen King’s short story by the same name. Cusack plays an author who’s rather skeptical about anything supernatural. After receiving a post card for a mysterious hotel, with a note not to enter a specific room, the author becomes curious and decides to check things out for himself, only to experience an array of supernatural and horrific events.
Oh yeah , and do n’t be an idiot like a turn of parent at the screening I keep an eye on and fetch your 4 or 5 class honest-to-god to this . Although not excessively butcherly it ’s enough scary .
